Awareness on No Food Waste

by Kushal Naharki | 07-10-2020 16:34 recommendations 0

Food is an essential need, vital for health and wellbeing but unfortunately the numbers of people dying of starvation have increased. In a world where one in nine people worldwide still suffer from hunger ironically food waste is one of the contributor of the global problem like Climate Change also.

People must be conscious and make best utilization of food without wasting because large amount of money, energy and resources have been invested on the food from farmers in the field, manufacturing company to the people cooking it at home. There's a lot we can do to reduce the food waste that's costing our families, depleting our natural resources, and contributing to climate change with planning ahead, storage of leftover foods and donating foods to people and animals,

We can also produce our own vegetables for ourselves in our kitzen garden which makes us understand the importace of food more. The best way is to be responsible to not waste food at all but just incase of production, decomposable waste produced can also be turned into compost. There aren't waste but nutrients for soil.

Lets all be responsible for our action and contribute to achieve sdg on Zero Hunger and Sustainable production and consumption to achieve.

The first International day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste is celebrated dated on 29th September, 2020 by the United Nations. The team members from Me and my SDGs also launches a mega video campaign to celebrate the day. Me and my SDGs are working for the attainment of 17 Sustainable Development Goals set by the UN coordiaated by Sagar Koirala. I feel gald to participate in this campaign sharing my thoughts as Tunza EcoGeneration Regional Ambassador to Asia. You can see my video during the campaign at:

    Hello Kushal!
    It's your SJ mentor.

Thank you for sharing your report about wasting Food.
We must recognize the resources invested to grow the crops and raw materials.
Since I live in municipal it's hard to make food waste into compost because there are no lands to bury.
Instead city trust company is collecting the food wastes.
Some of these wastes are being transformed to fertilizers but not the all amount.
I think citizens must get interest about food waste reproduction.
I appreciate your devotion to Eco Generation.

    Best regards,
    SJ mentor.

    Hello Kushal,
    this is your mentor WooJoo.

It is said that huge amount of greenhouse gases are emitted when transporting tons of food from farms to the cities.
Therefore I agree that having his/her own kitchen garden to grow vegetables would be very nice,
but in many cases, including South Korea, the cities are really compact and crowded with people that we do not have enough space for our own garden.
So, I think constructing a share-garden in corners of the city would be a better idea for these cases.
I believe all of us can work together to achieve Zero Hunger and Sustainable production and consumption.

Thank you for sharing your video with us!

    Best wishes,
    WooJoo
