Dec Thematic Report: Country's environmental regulation or infrastructure".

by Okoth Okoth | 16-01-2021 14:04 recommendations 0

The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) is a Kenyan government agency responsible for the management of the environment, and environmental policy.

Kenya is guided by the Environmental Management Act no 8. Of 1999 (Amended in 2015) which regulates how people manage environmental resources and pollution control.

Lets take a look at part V of the policy:

PART V – PROTECTION AND CONSERVATION OF THE ENVIRONMENT
42. Protection of rivers, lakes and wetlands.
43. Protection of traditional interests.
44. Protection of hill tops, hill sides, mountain areas and forests.
45. Identification of hilly and mountainous areas.
46. Re-forestation and afforestation of hill tops, hill slopes and mountainous areas.
47. Other measures for management of hill tops, hill sides and mountainous areas.
48. Protection of forests.
49. Conservation of energy and planting of trees or woodlots.
50. Conservation of biological diversity.
51. Conservation of biological resources in-situ.
52. Conservation of biological resources ex-situ.
53. Access to genetic resources of Kenya.
54. Protection of environmentally significant areas.
55. Protection of the coastal zone.
56. Protection of the ozone layer.

The policy/Act of parliament is what Kenya needs to conserve and protect the environment and regulate how our scarce resources are being used. The job remains on the NEMA to ensure that this Act is being
fully implemented and no part is neglected.

    Hello Okoth,
    this is your mentor WooJoo.

    Warm greetings from South Korea.
Thank you for sharing your report regarding Kenya's environmental regulations.
I am glad to know that such Act is enacted, and hopefully it is implemented and followed well by people.
It would be nice if you could share with us specific examples, or how people think about the Act and if all of them do know about its existence.
Also, I am interested of your opinion regarding the regulation as well.
We know that the control of use of limited resources and the control of pollution are very important for the sustainability growth, and for every life's health.

    Green cheers!

    Regards,
    WooJoo

    Hello Okoth!
    It's your SJ mentor.

I hope you are doing well.
Thank you for introducing Kenyan policies and enforcement agencies related to the environment.
It's good to tell you what laws and policies there are, but it'll be easier to understand if you share examples of how they're actually being applied.
It would be nice to know in detail how Kenya's endangered species are protected and what measures are being taken to protect the coast.
    Keep writing!

    Best regards,
    SJ mentor.
