¡°Wastes and Environment¡±

In our quest to make the environment worth living for every individual, we cannot overlook the effects of wastes on our environment. Waste as we know is the major cause of pollution all around the world and indeed the leading cause of climate in the world as well. We put in efforts to get rid of waste in environment and in our quest to do that, we end up endangering the environment. Some people burn waste products as their means of getting rid of it. Burning causes air pollution and air pollution contributes to global warming which also leads to climate change.

A couple of companies see to it that there proper measures put in place for waste recycling in use of their products. I will use Melcom Group of Companies as an example here. One of their companies deal in shopping and what they have done is that;

1.     They use biodegradable bags to serve their customers, what this means is that, when a customer disposes the bag indiscriminately the environment would not suffer much consequences because the bag is made of materials that can breakdown easily and fast.

2.     They also encourage the use of paper made boxes for packaging. This is further interesting because once a customer has any of the boxes, he or she can return back to the shop with the same box another time for shopping. I actually think this idea is very laudable and other institutions could do the same.

3.     When we look at a company like Coca Cola, they have enacted a system which I think is also very good in Africa and my country Ghana. What they do is that, they distribute their drinks in glass bottles and when a customer wants to purchase a product, the customer must bring the same bottles they bought previously from them to get the new one. In a situation where the customer has no bottles, he or she would have to pay much more to get the drink. This is a very basic and nice way of ensuring recycling of waste in the Coca Cola Company with respect to their glass bottle products.

4.     A lot of companies are putting in their quota to help sustain the environment, I could mention ¡°ZoomLion¡± who basically collect waste products from our homes in Ghana. I don¡¯t sometimes like their work because they take too long sometimes to collect the waste but they have a system which is very good and I think others could learn from them. For very large homes and companies, they give them four different bins with four different colours. Each bin would be assigned to a particular waste, for example green could be for waste products that can decay, red could be for rubber waste etc. and this move of theirs is very good because it makes sorting of the waste very easy.

A lot is being done, and a lot can be done to make the world whole again.

Green Cheers!

    Hello Justice,
    this is your mentor WooJoo.

    Warm greetings from South Korea!
Thank you for sharing such examples of waste recycling, which are very informative.
Like you said, nowadays countries are enabling regulations that lead industries and companies to cooperate and cowork in waste management,
and to take care of our environment.
I think that food and market industries were the first with replacing plastic bags into eco-friendly ones.
As an another example, South Korea is also replacing plastic bubble raps into recycled paper-cushinioning materials.
These changes may seem nothing compared to wastes that we are producing today,
but I believe that as soon as these actions keep going, we will accomplish a green world again.
ZoomLion sounds interesting as well, which hopefully the system improves for faster collection.

    Keep sharing

    Regards,
    WooJoo\

    Hello Justice!
    It's your SJ mentor.

    Warm greetings from Korea!
Thank you for introducing the community's efforts to reduce waste.
In Korea, garbage was burned without permission until the 1980s or 90s, but it is now legally prohibited because it causes environmental pollution and fire.
Systems that facilitate the reuse of packaging materials and bags several times should be modeled everywhere.
With more delivery services, it is difficult to collect glass bottles, and the use of plastic beverage bottles has increased.
The No. 1 plastic waste in the world is Coca-Cola PET bottle, and I hope companies will also actively try to solve it.
Finally, since separating waste is very important, education on this is essential.

    Green cheers!

    Sincerely,
    SJ mentor.
