Wastes and environment
Wastes are produced in our day to day life. They are produced either naturally or artificially by human. The erosion, landslides, flood, plants unwanted products are naturally produced wastes. Likewise, pollutants from vehicles, industries, nuclear explosions are artificially pollutants. These pollutants are all artificially produced wastes. These wastes have severe environmental hazards.

The proper management of these wastes should be done. The wastes are either degradable or non degradable. The non degradable wastes can be plastics or chemicals. The disposal of all these wastes should be done on separate containers of different colors so that it's easier for identification.

Wastes in the environment are of several kinds. Knowingly or unknowingly, every aspects of environment is producing it. However, the impact of wastes produced by human being is very vulnerable in the present scenario. Mostly, I will focus on food wastes now.

In the world, 1 in 9 people have to sleep on empty stomach every night, and tonnes of food is ended up in bin. The production reach the table, but ends in bin in large amount. This is a critical issue. It not only raises the problem of food waste, but also has severe impact on environment and other hungry people in universe. The food in the bin is responsible for the production of several environment degrading gases like carbon dioxide and many others. The food that end in bin can be the nutrition for several hundreds of hungry people. Unknowingly, the food that people waste is Killing lots of life, and also degrading environment.

So, here I plead you to buy only the amount you need, don't store and spend extravagently. Please, be food conscious and environment conscious. We are healthy, only when our environment is healthy.

    Hello Asmita!
    It's your SJ mentor.

I hope you are doing well.
Thank you for writing your thoughts on waste and environment as a report.
I think the most important thing in the process of disposing of waste is the collection and separation of waste.
Decomposable and non-resolvable wastes should be divided and treated according to appropriate procedures.
Wastes are also the result of the distribution.
While enough food is produced for everyone in the world to eat, on one side they throw away food and on the other side they starve.
Abandoned food will have an adverse effect on the environment as you said.
We need to be interested in ensuring that appropriate distributions occur, not waste.

    Green cheers!

    Best regards,
    SJ mentor.

    Hello Asmita,
    this is your mentor WooJoo.

I hope you are doing well.
Thank you for sharing your last thematic report of the term! :)
Food waste management is an important task that we have to achieve, and if we do not control the waste amount and soil degradation, then we will probably experience food crisis in the future.
Most of the food wastes are produced during production selection for sale, during transportation, or left over from the markets.
It is sad that some parts of the world are dying because of hunger, even there are always food left over in our dinner tables.
Proper management and controlled agriculture should be provided to prevent soil deterioration, and carbon gase emission, since food degradation in the soil produces methane and CO2.
Microorganisms are sometimes used as environmental friendly degradation tool, which digests food and absorbs the odor and carbon gases.
Hopefully more techniques as this one are adopted to the fields.

    Take care

    Regards,
    WooJoo

  • CHARU SMITA says :
It is true that more than half of the world population sleeps on an empty stomach. This is because most food is either too costly or is brought by the richer society. The problem here isn't that food is being consumed. Rather, the rich does not think twice before treating food with evil, throwing away half of the food and being picky with it. Because of this waste, food shortage is increasing day by day.
