Freshwater fish in catastrophic decline

by Asmita Gaire | 23-02-2021 16:00 recommendations 0

Where are we moving towards?

Seriously, the catastrophe is increasing day by day. Many species are in endangered state, some in vulnerable state. Freshwater fish is in 'catastrophic' decline. Large number of people rely on fish for food and trade. Population, pressure, pollution, unsustainable farming and degradation has warned the status of fish. A report has warned of a "catastrophic" decline in freshwater fish, with nearly a third threatened by extinction.

Conservation groups said 80 species were known to have gone extinct, 16 in the last year alone. The report said populations of migratory fish have fallen by three-quarters in the last 50 years.Over the same time period, populations of larger species, known as "megafish", have crashed by 94%.
The main reason for it is found to be pollution and sewage. It not only degrade the condition of the freshwater, but also affect many other fishes and also hamper in the livelihood of many poor farmers. This is very critical issue for which every concerned authority must pay a special attention before it's too late.

Where are we actually moving towards? Seriously, many outbreaks are threatening human lives. Aquatic and terrestrial ecosystem are not safe. People are showing more a demonous behavior instead of protecting environment where we live in for today and for future. It's now more urgent than ever to find a concrete legislative for permanent and sustainable solutions from government, non government, community and all other concerned authority level.

    Hello Asmita!
    It's your SJ mentor.

I hope everything will come out all right.
Along with climate change, various environmental problems are being caused.
Due to habitat loss and environmental pollution, biodiversity has been plummeting since the 20th century.
This is also a major crisis for mankind.
If the ecosystem collapses, even human beings, who are members of the ecosystem, cannot be safe.
As you said, it's time to change for action and we should try to find answers.

    Green cheers!

    Best regards,
    SJ mentor.

    Hello Asmita,
    this is your mentor WooJoo.

    Warm greetings from South Korea!
Thank you for sharing such an informative report.
I agree that the majority is showing no interest towards these catastrophes, rather than taking it seriously and taking actions in other to prevent more of them.
It would be great if you can explain us what is causing freshwater pollution in detail,
and where and which species have gone extincted.
In addition to sewage and pollution, the climate change is also greatly affecting them, so what we should do is to find real solutions to stop it.

    Keep sharing

    Regards,
    WooJoo
