As a part of practical learning experience for Technical students of Grade 9, I conducted few practicals of the subject Introduction to Agronomy. Grade 9 Technical students have altogether of 5 technical subjects. Among them, Introduction to Agronomy is one of the major subject. They have numerous practicals and among them Use of Farm Mechanization is one of the important and useful practical. This 3 credit hour long practical exposes students to basics of mechanization and its usefulness for agriculture development. I took all students of Grade 9 Technical stream to the field. We bought Hand Tractor for field preparation for growing vegetables. Thirty Eight students were present in this practical. All of them were pretty much excited about this practical and enjoyed very much. Around 20 students used the tractor for ploughing. Similarly, few were involved in starting engine, observing the various parts of the hand tractor. At first, i showed them by operating the tractor. Afterwards, students came in turn to use the tractor. They ploughed the field to finer tilth and understood the working mechanism of hand tractor. As the soil was little moist, it was not difficult for students to use the machinery. I believe that practical knowledge is more important than theoretical knowledge. One can learn about new things only by experimenting and doing on field. I am loving this new profession of mine. Technical Education is the perfect way of shifting from traditional educational system and focusing more on skilled employment sector. There are lots of technical students in our country and we are progressing a lot in education sector these days. I hope that my students will achieve bigger heights by their hardwork and will be good agriculture entrepreneurs and researchers in days to come.

Hi Sagar, this is Yuseon your mentor :D
Agronomy is actually quite not familiar to me, so it was really fascinating to read your article related to the area that I didn't know much of.
It's cool that you were the one to direct the students and expose them to basics of mechanization and its usefulness for agriculture development.
It really is important for them to understand more about agriculture and the environment so that the students will become good agriculture entrepreneurs and researchers in days to come.
Hope to hear more news about what's going on, and hear more information related to this area. Thank you!

Hi Sagar,
This is your mentor Debbie.
It seems like you've conducted some technical studies for younger students at school! What exactly is a practical learning experience? Is that a part of your undergraduate program? It seems interesting!:)
Anyways, I cannot agree with you more, that technical knowledge and experience is actually more important than people think - a lot of times, theoretical knowledge is not what guides us to innovative ideas. It is the technical aspect that drives us forward.
Thank you for sharing such an experience! Keep up with your work!
Best Regards,
Debbie
