(Monthly Report) Business and Environment

by tatuli kvaratskhelia | 18-03-2021 20:29 recommendations 0

Years ago it may have seemed to us that the resources on earth are inexhaustible and humans are only responsible for obtaining and using them. However, we already know today that this view is wrong and therefore the only concern of individuals and companies should not be the discovery and use of resources, but also the search for ways to grow, maintain and protect them.

The activities of many companies cause environmental pollution, but it is important not to forget to mention the companies that are able to carry out their activities without environmental pollution and often, moreover, plan various activities in favor of the environment. Here are 3 global companies that have successfully managed this.

1. IKEA is a Swedish multinational company that designs and sells ready-to-assemble furniture, kitchen appliances and home accessories, among other useful goods and occasionally home services, a leader in the furniture market since 2008.

IKEA has transformed entire business operations through very large investments and made them more sustainable, many of these changes can be easily noticed by consumers, although many things are not visible to us. The Swedish company obtains almost 50% of the wood needed to make furniture from sustainable forests, and 100% of the cotton they consume is produced on farms that use less water, energy and chemical pesticides. IKEA owns more than 700,000 solar panels that power their stores.

2. Unilever - a British-Dutch company that combines a variety of food and beverage, as well as cleaning and personal care products.

Unilever has done more than just invest in protecting the environment - they have made sustainable development part of their corporate identity. The company's "Sustainable Living Plan" includes specific goals in terms of supply chain, production, water and energy use, relationships with suppliers and the communities in which they operate. In 2010, when they first started working in this area, the CEO of the company, Paul Polman, said that in the next 10 years they wanted to double the activities and at the same time halve the impact that their company had on the environment (meaning negative impact). In 2015, they even received an award from the United Nations for their progress towards this goal.

3. Panasonic - Multinational Equipment Company.

Panasonic does not receive as much recognition as other companies for its environmental activities, although it always deserves the mention of experts in the field. Like others, Panasonic has ambitious goals in terms of energy consumption. This applies to both energy efficiency and its recovery. In addition, they are focused on making environmentally friendly products. What distinguishes them from other companies? How do they manage to integrate sustainable development into their daily activities. For example, the company even changed the location of the office, located in one of the suburbs of North America it was moved to a central location, in a LEED-certified (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) building, so that their employees would use less vehicles to get to work and therefore reduce Negative impact of emissions on the environment.

    Hi Tatuli,

    This is your mentor Debbie!
It seems like you??ve researched about a couple of companies that are managing to reduce environmental pollution. Out of the three companies, Unilever might seem unfamiliar to the readers, but this is the company that distributes Vaselline and Lipton Iced Tea! Now does it seem familiar? :D

One thing that really stroke my mind was that Panasonic moved their company so that the employees would travel less! That??s super cool! I hope in the near future, when I??m employed, the company I work for would do the same as well ;)

Great job with the report! Next time, it might be easier to read if you include a couple of related illustrations or pictures! :D

    Green Cheers,

Debbie

Hi tatuli, this is your mentor Yuseon:D

Thanks for writing this thematic report regarding business and environment. Good job!

I love your strong intro about the change of perspective of resources; from discovery and use of resources, to search for ways to grow, maintain and protect them. Resources are the gift of mother Earth and it is quite selfish of us to only think of enjoying the benefits, excluding taking responsibility.

Good information on the 3 global companies that follows our status.

Hope to read more beneficial reports from you,
    Yuseon
