Businesses and the Environment

Business history has never paid much attention to the environment. Brushing aside the firm's reliance and impact on the natural world, early business historians zeroed in on the role of the entrepreneur in big business's rise. They found it easy to truncate, marginalize or altogether ignore the physical processes by which the stuff of nature raw materials was carved or coaxed out of mountains, forests, and deserts, channeled into factories and squeezed and cajoled into commodities. They scarcely considered the ever¡©changing varieties of waste generated by businesses and customers, which so often infiltrated, polluted, and otherwise altered the world beyond factory and office. They devoted equally little attention to the effects of resource extraction and use on plants, animals, land, air, or water, much less entire ecosystems and climate.Business has always depended on and had an impact on the natural world. But the development of the relationship between business and the environment from the extraction of raw materials to the management of resources to the generation of waste has long been neglected by business historians. This excerpt from a special issue of Business History Review tells why a new historical approach to "Business and the Environment" is called for today.
Going beyond environmental compliance can bring business benefits. Many businesses have realised that acting in a socially and environmentally responsible way is more than just a legal duty. It affects your bottom line and the long-term success of your business. This guide outlines your main environmental responsibilities, including your obligations to recycle the waste your business produces. It also explains where you can find more detailed information and help on environmental issues.

we must protect nature no matter how much we depend on our environment, and we must give priority to what is natural

    Hi Nadir,
    this is your mentor Yuseon:D

It is true that initial entrepreneurs had little interest in preserving the environment, since their one and only goal was to make profit with efficiency. However, nowadays the having a eco centric management has become a 'trend'. Many companies are working hard to follow the regulations or putting more effort to minimize their harm to the environment, whether they are willing or not. As you have mentioned, it is a relief that nany businesses act in a socially and environmentally responsible way. Due to this, I hope the future is more brighter and 'greener' than now.

    Keep up the good work,
    Yuseon

    Hi Nadir,

This is your mentor Debbie. :)

I think you made a critical point there, that ¡°acting in a socially and environmentally responsible way is more than just a legal duty.¡± This is actually really important, because some businesses are trying to ¡°show¡± that they are following guidelines, instead of really putting in the effort. In this way, they are only avoiding fees when enforcement comes to check them out.

Just like the picture you have attached, I hope we can treasure the environment with our heart. This would be the only way for us to maintain the sustainability.

Keep up the work! Thanks for sharing your insights. It would be nice to separate relevant information into paragraphs as well!

    Green Cheers,
    Debbie
