Monthly Free Report - Earth Day 2021

by Sagar Koirala | 13-04-2021 17:31 recommendations 0

Earth Day was founded in 1970 as a day of education about environmental issues, and Earth Day 2021 will occur on Thursday, April 22—the holiday's 51st anniversary. The holiday is now a global celebration that¡¯s sometimes extended into Earth Week, a full seven days of events focused on green living. The brainchild of Senator Gaylord Nelson and inspired by the protests of the 1960s, Earth Day began as a ¡°national teach-in on the environment¡± and was held on April 22 to maximize the number of students that could be reached on university campuses. By raising public awareness of pollution, Nelson hoped to bring environmental causes into the national spotlight.

By the early 1960s, Americans were becoming aware of the effects of pollution on the environment. Rachel Carson¡¯s 1962 bestseller Silent Spring raised the specter of the dangerous effects of pesticides on the American countryside. Factories pumped pollutants into the air, lakes and rivers with few legal consequences. Big, gas-guzzling cars were considered a sign of prosperity. Only a small portion of the American population was familiar with–let alone practiced–recycling.

Elected to the U.S. Senate in 1962, Senator Gaylord Nelson, a Democrat from Wisconsin, was determined to convince the federal government that the planet was at risk. In 1969, Nelson, considered one of the leaders of the modern environmental movement, developed the idea for Earth Day after being inspired by the anti- Vietnam War ¡°teach-ins¡± that were taking place on college campuses around the United States.

This year on 2021, Earth Day will be celebrated on April 22 with the theme of Restore Our Earth. Various programs and campaigns will be organized in different parts of Nepal and all around the globe. The concept of Earth Day has gained wide following and popularity in recent years. Especially youngsters are getting attracted to the concept of Earth Day. Due to increasing environment depletion and haphazard use of resources, the need for conserving and sustaining our planet have increased rapidly. This year, I will also be organizing an online event on the occasion of Earth¡¯s Day.

I wish happy Earth Day to everyone in advance.

    Hi Sagar,

This is your mentor Debbie. :)

Thanks for introducing the history of Earth Day. I knew it was coming up soon, but it??s just in two days!

Although the Earth Day seem like a one-day event, it really isn??t! We can take action any time - even as small as putting waste correctly into recycling bins. I??m interested in what kind of online event you are organizing! Maybe you could write about an evaluation of the event. Just a suggestion :)

    Green Cheers,

    Debbie
