Bamboo School in Nepal

Samata School is also known as Rs 100 Bamboo school because the whole architecture of the school is made up of bamboo instead of cement and bricks. The school is established by social activist Uttam Sanjel 20 years ago where mainly students from poor and marginalized community are taking advantage of.

Raw materials used in buildings and its impact on the environment:

All the building structures of Samata School like roof, fences, walls are made up of bamboo stems. Bamboo can replace brick, stone, tiles, plastic and metal as it is durable, tensile, minimal in weight, economic and ecofriendly. Bamboo is one of the fastest growing plant and most rapidly renewable material, and it can be a good idea of using bamboo to minimize exploitation of other wooden plants. Eco friendly in the sense that the bamboo building concept has embraced green building technology with an emphasis on reduction of waste and sustainable building practices.

Human Impact while living in the building

Not only the school, wherever people visit the bamboo house, I have seen they always compliment the sustainable buildings. In my case, first I like the color, softness of it flows with like the nature and actually feeling peaceful, relaxing. I like the idea of being all green and cost is also seeming to be right too. Most important, bamboo house are designed to be safe and strong; Earthquake resistant.

Bamboo house can be a good idea to have minimal footprint and sustainability.

Hi Bal, This is your mentor Yuseon:D

Thanks for the well written thematic report for April. You have introduced the Bamboo School in Nepal as the example of Green Architecture.

You're right. Using environmentally friendly materials is the first step the realizing eco-friendly constructing. I wonder if it is strong enough to really be a 'sustainable architecture.' Even if it is a eco friendly material, it might be no use if it is unable to function for a long time as a school.

I love how you organized your report with bold letters for the subtopic. It is much easier to understand the flow and content.
    Keep up the good work,
    Yuseon
