Bamboo is ultimate source to develop ecofriendly building. It can be propagated easily on poor fertile soil. Our country import most of the construction material such as cement and steel from other countries . Cost of timber and cement is higher than bamboo. It can be afforded by both people of rural area and urban area because it is cheap and do not require high technology. In Nepal bamboo houses are mostly in eastern part of Nepal where house are constructed with mud, stone and bamboo. Promotion of bamboo housing will foster the commercialization of bamboo farming which may improve the livelihood of rural people. Use of bamboo rather than a wood reduces the deforestation. Bamboo is one of the lightest building material so it is easier to manage, transport and store.

The major advantages of bamboo house are described below.

1)      Sustainable building

. It is one of the fastest growing crop in world as compared to others. Daily growth of bamboo is 30cm to 100cm per day. It will mature in 3 years and have high regeneration capacity. It can be grown in marginal land and unproductive land easily.

2)      Ecofriendly in nature

Bamboo building can be build easily from natural resources so it have less adverse impact on environment. Bamboo farming will produce high amount of oxygen content to reduce pollution. Bamboo retain the water to reduce the soil erosion.

3)      It can be easily recycle

According to National Association of home  builders about 8000 pounds of waste is produced from construction of 2000-square-foot home. Larger number of wastes is generated from wood, cardboard and drywall which are deposited in landfill. The natural surface of bamboo is smooth with attractive color so extra painting and polishing is  not necessary.

Building of bamboo have a great potential to build ecofriendly and sustainable  building in future.

    Dear Dolma,

This is your mentor Debbie. :)

While living in China, I??ve actually seen many houses made of bamboo - great to know that Nepal has lots of bamboo houses too! It definitely has so many advantages as you??ve mentioned - but not only that, it also creates a cool environment inside. I remember, that however hot it was outside, it was pretty chilled in the bamboo house itself.

Looking forward to hear more from you!

    Best,
    Debbie

    Hi Dolma,

    This is your mentor Yuseon:D

You have introduced bamboo house as an example of Green Architecture. I didn't know that bamboo is one of the fastest growing crops. It would certainly be a sustainable material with almost infinite provision. Also it would be easily demolished and reused so construction waste is minimized.

Thanks for the appropriate thematic report:)
    Keep up the good work,
    Yuseon
