What is Upcycling? Upcycling means recycling, a second life of things. This word means both a craft, a hobby, and a way of recycling items that could become garbage. As a result of upsycling, practical things of various categories are obtained-from notebooks and jewelry to cozy homes. The secondary use of things is familiar to people from ancient times. Since ancient times, our ancestors sewed clothes, knitted rugs from scraps. The secondary use was not caused by fashion or concern for the environment. The fabric was expensive and difficult to make. In such conditions, the hostess could not afford to throw away a piece of good material. The secondary use of things prevents millions of tons of garbage from entering landfills. Most likely, after a couple of transformations, the item will still end up in a landfill or for recycling, but it will be only one item, not 3-4. For example, an old non-working saxophone was made into a floor lamp. After 5-10 years, the floor lamp tired of the tool made a hanger. A few years later, the interior was updated, the hanger was given to the neighbors. The new owners after 8 years decided to get rid of the old shabby hanger. What is the benefit of upcycling in this case? They will throw away only 1 saxophone, cables and cartridges from the floor lamp, hooks from the hanger. If you bought a new piece of furniture every time, there would be a musical instrument, a floor lamp and 2 hangers in the landfill. By delaying the disposal of things, we increase their chance of getting into a waste pile, but into recycling. In 20 years, there will be new waste processing plants, more advanced technologies for economical and deep processing. In addition to the environmental side, upcycling also has a creative aspect. Dacha plots with the author's decor looks original and original. Factory garden figures and plastic flowerpots have a more uniform, official look. Interior items, jewelry, accessories made of unexpected materials give a special charm to the room or the owner. The issue of saving money is also important. Instead of new things, it is enough to buy the missing items, and sometimes you can do without spending money. Spending only personal time and applying ingenuity, you can get an exclusive item that is not inferior to the new one. There are no boundaries for upcycling. Used fabric, leather, wood, plastic, glass, and metal items are used to make new items. A jar made of any material is suitable for making a jewelry box or a candle holder. Even fragments of demolished buildings can be reused.

I agree that finding secondary usages of various things definitely helps in reducing waste. Sometimes it??s hard to find usages! I mean, what could we do with plastic bottle when we finish drinking the thing inside? But if we just try to think one more time, we could make a flowerpot or use it as a dumbbell if we fill it with water or sand.

At the end, creativity will keep us going, allowing us to both save the environment and money. Thanks for sharing your insights, Diana! :)
