UPCYCLING And our mentor was right with the accession that perhaps some of us may be hearing the word ¡°upcycling¡± for the first time. I am one of those people. The practice has been in existence in Ghana for some time now, the problem is that I did not know what was being practiced is ¡°upcycling¡±. The best way I could explain the term upcycling is basically reusing recycled materials after their usage. In Ghana, I can review a couple of companies and their ways of doing their businesses which I think can be called upcycling. If we take Coca Cola Ghana for instance, they charge less if you have old bottles for which they would recycle and refill for sale later. What this means is; you pay more if you don¡¯t have the bottles. At the same, a customer can keep the bottles and sell them to the company and earn money out of that. Nestle Ghana is another company I can write of, they have a lot of products they sell. Beverages, soaps, and many more. I will talk about their Cerelac product for kids and their Milo which I know are available in many countries around the world. For the Cerelac, they advise buyers to purchase the one in the tin (container) so when it is depleted or finished, instead of going to buy a new tin of Cerelac, there is a larger sachet you can buy, then you refill the tin till the sachet is depleted. Same procedure is enacted for the milo products. Personally, I have a friend (Priscilla) who is doing something really great and very appreciable through ¡°Upcycling¡±. I will interview her about her works and report about it in the upcoming months. When she goes to the supermarket and her goods are packaged in a recyclable box for her or any box of any kind, after she offloads her goods, she gathers the boxes and use it for her business. She makes bags out of them! Very beautiful bags, and of course I have ordered one for myself. More details would be made available about her works in my upcoming free reports. Overall ¡°Upcycling¡± is a very cool procedure to reuse materials. It is cost effective and saves a lot of time. Practice Upcycling, Go Green Every day! Green Cheers from Ghana. |

Hi Justice,
This is your mentor Yuseon:D
Collecting empty bottles and getting economical credit for it isn't actually a part of upcycling. It is still a good procedure for the environment, though. In Korea, the country actually has a pay-back system for empty alcohol bottles.
I'm actually looking forward to your next report regarding your friend Priscilla's up-cycling methods. Keep up the good work:)

Hi Justice,
This is your mentor Debbie!
Thanks for sharing case studies being practiced in Ghana. But hmm.. I disagree with you that upcycling is reusing recycled materials. If you define ¡®upcycling?? in this way, what is the difference between ¡®upcycling?? and ¡®recycling???
Upcycling, to be more precise, would be reusing recycled materials *in a better quality* and I feel like this is the most important part of the definition. Please have a deeper look in the concept of upcycling! :) Thanks for your effort in the report, Justice.
Best,

Debbie
