[THEMATIC REPORT] UPCYCLING: WHAT, WHY, WHERE, HOW?

by CHARU SMITA | 19-05-2021 12:42 recommendations 0

Upcycling- sounds similar to recycling doesn't it? Yet, I prefer the former. The two processes are so similar yet so different. Both of them use some substance and make them into something new. But Recycling is about breaking the substance down and manufacturing new objects from the product and upcycling is about making new objects without hampering the original form of the substance. I feel like upcycling is a tribute to the original object, moreover, it is highly creative. Even in schools, teaching recycling is a complex process that requires use of equipments that most school cannot afford or cannot maintain. In that case, recycling can only be done in specialized industries. However, upcycling is a skill that can be taught easily in extracurricular periods such as art and craft or in enviornmental clubs.

We can practice upcycling at our houses too. There are many reasons as to why we should do it, but the most important of them all is the fact that it contributes to a better environment. As our duty towards mother nature, upcycling should be a part of our life. Other than that, it can also be done as a hobby, and when we upcycle an object in a creative manner, we can decorate the house. The upcycled object is now only one of its kind. Doesn't that sound extraordinary? It is!

Other than homes, industries should also adopt upcycling for creative manufacturing and reduced packaging costs. It also decreases the amount of waste produced every day by a huge percentage. Research show that most developed countries have been using upcycling measures since years. This is living example of how upcucling can benefit both the society and economic development. It can also be practiced in offices, clubs, restaurants etc.

Now we know: What, Why and Where we should practice upcycling, but how do we practice it? This is why I will be sharing some upcycling I have been practicing even before I knew the word for it! I would like to share how upcycling in my house has reduced unnecessary spending and increased creativity. There are so many upcycled objects in house but I would like to share only some of them today.

    Hi Charu,

This is your mentor Yuseon :)

I love how you organized your report as WHAT, WHY, WHERE, HOW regarding upcycling.
It definitely made the whole idea more clear. Are those examples of upcycling in the household one of your own? They look quite impressive. Not just acknowledging them as garbage, you seem to have made good use of them. Green Cheers!

    Keep sharing with us,
    Yuseon

    Hi Charu,

This is your mentor Debbie :)

I love your idea that ¡°upcycling is a tribute to the original object¡±. It??s a new way of looking at this topic. And it makes the difference between upcycling and recycling even clearer.

I also enjoyed reading about your method of upcycling at home! I was just looking for a book holder.. Perhaps I should use a shoe box that??s still at home. Thanks for an inspiring article, Charu !! Great job! :D

    Best Regards,

    Debbie
