In this free report, I would like to talk about the newly declared National Park of my state Assam. On the month of March, I wrote a report on the Kaziranga National Park, if you haven't read it yet, please do check.. The Dehing Patkai Wildlife Sanctuary has been declared as a National Park by the forest department of Assam on 9th June. With the up-gradation of Dehing Patkai, Assam now, has 7 national parks. The other national parks in Assam are- Kaziranga, Manas, Nameri, Orang and Dibru-Saikhowa. Also the other newly declared national park is the Raimona National Park. The Dehing Patkai forms the largest stretch of lowland rainforests in India. The Dehing Patkai Wildlife Sanctuary was declared as Dehing-Patkai Elephant Reserve under Project Elephant. Dehing Patkai Wildlife Sanctuary (now National Park) is located within the larger Dehing Patkai Elephant Reserve, which spreads across the coal and oil rich districts of Upper Assam (Dibrugarh and Tinsukia districts). It is also known as the Jeypore Rainforest. Dehing is the name of the river that flows through this forest and Patkai is the hill at the foot of which the sanctuary lies. Rare fauna found in the region include Chinese pangolin, flying fox, wild pig, sambar, barking deer, gaur, serow and Malayan giant squirrels. Also some rare bird species like Lesser Adjutant Stork, White Winged Wood duck, White-backed Vulture, Slender-billed Vulture, White cheeked Hill Partridge, Khaleej Pheasant, Grey Peacock-Pheasant, etc. It is the only sanctuary in India which is home to seven different species of wild cats - tiger, leopard, clouded leopard, leopard cat, golden cat, jungle cat and marbled cat. Assamese macaque, a primate found in the forest, is in the red list of Near Threatened species. It has the highest concentration of the rare endangered White Winged Wood Duck. Dehing Patkai is deciduous rainforest interspersed with semi-evergreen and lush green flora. The forest is often referred to as the 'Amazon of the East' owing to its expanse and thick forest. Some of the important tree species found in this forest area are – Hollong, Mekai, Dhuna, Uriyam, Nahar, Samkothal, Bheer, Hollock, Nahor, Au– tenga (elephant apple), different species of Dimoru etc. The towering Hollong tree which is also the state tree of Assam dominates the emergent layer of this rainforest. Hi Dalima,
This is your mentor Yuseon:D
Wow what wonderful pictures you have there.
Just watching those makes us feel the strong responsibility to preserve nature
and also the rare beautiful species living in it.
Jeypore Rainforest seems like a lovely place for wildlife animals. As we have little chance to feel those nature right next to us, these kind of reports provide excellent opportunites.
Thanks for sharing;)
