How To Give Up Plastic

A Guide to Changing the World, One Plastic Bottle at a Time

Will McCallum

Plastic pollution is one of the biggest issue that we are facing at present. As per UN report, an estimated 8 million tons of plastics ends up in seas and oceans every year. If the same trend continues, we would be having more plastics in the seas and oceans when compared to the marine ecosystem.

Now I am going to talk about a book ¡°How to Give Up Plastic¡±.

As the title of the book says everything, this is going to guide us the different ways of removing and eliminating plastics from our day to day life. Most of us are accustomed of using plastics frequently. We will be able to spot plastics in almost all places – home, office, restaurants. The author is a green activist and he teaches the readers on the ways to find the disposable plastic materials in their home and workplace. He had also discussed about the different alternatives to plastics. The options of organizing plastic free birthday and other parties, catching microfibers while washing our clothes, using a reusable straw and cutleries are discussed. The author wants us to make one change in eliminating the plastics from our daily life, which will have a greater effect on our environment.

You would be shocked to know that it takes approximately around 450 years for a plastic bottle to fully biodegrade. So the amount of plastic bottles that we use either ends in landfills or ends up in the oceans. Plastic pollution is a crisis and we will be able to find a solution only with our united effort to stop using them.

Stone Soup for a Sustainable World – Life changing stories of young heroes is featuring inspiring stories of 100 climate change trailblazers, environmental justice changemakers, sustainable business leaders, and green inventors/entrepreneurs who are creating innovative and sustainable solutions to build a more just, equitable, and sustainable world. Environmentalists hail from the 38 countries and 32 U.S. cities.

I am really honored to be featured in the book written by Ms. Marianne Larned. I am talking about how my innovation Marine Robot Cleaner aids in removing floating wastes from water surface and also about my PEPC Campaign through which the importance of recycling, reducing, reusing, repairing, rethinking and refusing is informed to the community. I am collecting papers, e-wastes, plastics and cans for recycling.

Together we can create a wave of change in our environment and say NO to single-use plastics.

    "Giving Up Plastic"
It seems to be a catchy phrase, and more than that, this is something to be acomplished
all around the world. If we are ablt to find an effective material that could replace plastic.
Hope we could find and utilize on soon enough.

    Thanks for sharing:)
    Green Cheers,

Your eco-actions are very inspiring - I??m sure many readers are also motivated by the activities you??ve been practicing. Curious to know how the Marine Robot Cleaner is going!! Maybe when you get a chance to, you could introduce that through one of the reports? Just an idea :D

    Best,
