Hello everyone! First of all I would like to thank TunzaEco Generation for understanding my situation as I have been going through a lot nowadays. My whole family got severely infected by this deadly Covid-19 and due to which I was not able to submit any of the reports of May.
But I am submitting my monthly report for May today which was based on the concept of Upcycling. Although this report is not of that standard as it has to be because this is all I can write because of my current situation.

Upcycling:
Upcycling is the process of reusing the waste or discarded products in such a way to make more valuable or useful product than the original one.
Today in this report I am going to discuss about pros and cons of Upcycling.
  • Pros of Upcycling:
  1. Upcycling is an economically sound process as it saves money from the recycling and landfill costs. That money can be used in the development of the nation.
  2. Upcycling is a creative concept and is one of the best way to teach children making useful objects from waste or discarded products.
  3. Upcycling is an eco-friendly concept also as it reduces the process of recycling and landfills, the natural resources are less depleted. Moreover less chemicals are emitted due to decrease in the process of recycling.
  4. Upcycling can be a source of business ideas and business project models. Many businesses have been established dedicated to collecting and sorting discarded products or processing waste components to feed them back into the mainstream. Several entrepreneurs have built their business around the production and distribution of upcycled products. These businesses include fashion boutiques, home and business furnishing shops, and third-party distributors, among others.
  • Cons of Upcycling:
  1. The major disadvantage of Upcycling is the cost of conversion of discarded objects into useful or more valuable products is sometimes more than the original cost of the product.
  2. The process of Upcycling is not decreasing through quantity of waste in the environment thus increases the pollution in the environment.
  3. Processing some materials might also involve using toxic chemicals or the introduction of resource-intensive processes. The drawbacks from the processing inputs might be as bad or even worse than the drawbacks from processing virgin raw materials.
  4. Moreover the installation of an Upcycling plant is very costly.

    Hi Pragati,

    This is your mentor Debbie.

First and foremost, I hope you??re safe at home! And hope your family is doing well too. Thanks for your effort in submitting the last thematic report as well.

I think it??s important to note that upcycling is indeed a business idea and business model. With the increasing importance of the environment, many businesses can try to target to produce upcycled products and that might be more attractive to consumers as well. Thanks for your informative article. Keep up the work, Pragati!

    Best,
    Debbie
