Call For Action To Save Lake Chad

by HASSAN ABUBAKAR MUHAMMAD | 14-09-2021 01:39 recommendations 0

One of Africa's largest freshwater bodies, LAKE CHAD, has shrunk by 90%.
Over 10 million people across the region are in need of emergency assistance.
The United Nations has termed the Lake Chad crisis as one of the worst in the world.Lake Chad straddles Nigeria, Niger, Cameroon And Chad and is home to 17.5 million people.
It is blessed with rich aquatic an terrestrial biodiversity.
Lake Chad basin comprises world heritage and Ramsar sites as well as wetlands of international importance. For years, the lake has been supporting drinking water, irrigation, fishing, livestock and economic activities for over 30 million people in the region.
It is vital for indeginous, pastoral and farming communities in one of the world's poorest countries. Therefore, as an ambassador to Nigeria, i want to use this opportunity to call for immediate interventions by the Governments, United Nations and other third parties to implement sustainable solutions in order to save the lake from drying up.

Hello Hassan, this is your mentor Hannah.
It's surprising to find out the Lake Chad crisis.
As you've mentioned, I also think it is crucial that international solutions should be implemented soon.
I wonder if the area of Lake Chad that dried up is also being desertified as well, because that would be another big problem.

Thank you for your great article and please keep up :)

    Hello, Hassan,
    this is your mentor Joon!

Thank you for sharing this news. It would not have been
possible to notice if it was not pointed out. I always feel
disappointed to the media for not pointing out or dealing these kinds
of news seriously, even though it is a very serious and urgent issue
affecting thousands or maybe millions of people.
Though I am not an expert, i can tell how serious
the problem is just by looking at the dispersity
of water by image. I believe Campaigns or such actions
to publicize this issue is definitely needed.

Thank you for the article dealing with crucial problem.

    Best,

    Joon.
