Let's take care of the planet, let's adopt a zero waste culture

by Dante Santiago Prada | 29-09-2021 04:53 recommendations 0

Working on 5 points, we can become prophets of the zero waste culture. This article will cover what these 5 points are, and examples of how to carry them out.

Point 1: Reject. We must reject unnecessary products and objects that we do not need, we must avoid accepting receipts, plastic bags in the supermarket, political advertising brochures at election time, among other things. In the same way, we must avoid buying products and things that we do not need, such as clothes, electronic items, among others.

Point 2: Reduce. This step is based on reducing the use of objects as much as possible. In addition to reducing the use of objects to the inevitable, it is important to reduce the use of non-renewable resources such as water. The use of some daily use products such as detergent or cleaning products should be reduced, as they are harmful to the environment.

Point 3: Refuse. Refusing and buying reusable things is one way we help the planet immensely. You can refuse the plastic bags that we use when we go shopping, or for example you can buy reusable cloth bags, it is also important to buy reusable plates and cutlery made of glass, plastic or porcelain, but as humanity we must stop using disposable utensils.

Point 4: Recycle. Recycling is the best known of the points mentioned. We must, as people, buy products packed in recycled containers, and we must also ensure that we recycle as much as we can, there are many things of daily use that we can recycle, for example yogurt containers and cans we can use as flowerpots, of the same So we can transform the bottles into glasses or pencil holders. There are a lot of ways to recycle, here is a link with a lot of ideas to recycle different objects of daily use: https://www.ecologiaverde.com/10-cosas-cotidianas-que-puedes-reutilizar-facilmente- at-home-440.html

Point 5: Use biodegradable products. This is the point with which we collaborate the most with the planet, since we use products that do not generate any type of waste. Today there are endless reusable products that we can buy such as bamboo toothbrushes, or kitchen utensils made with avocado seed. We must also collaborate and help finance different projects such as that of Chilean researchers who are developing water-soluble bags. Here is the research link: https://elpais.com/internacional/2018/07/25/mundo_global/1532518858_768849.html

In conclusion, there are many ways we can help the planet, and following these 5 steps is one of the many ways to do it.

Hello Dante, this is your mentor Hannah.

I'm so sorry for the late comment.
Well written thematic article on our September's theme zero waste.
5Rs, right? It's becoming a theoretical method for zero waste, I think.
As Joon Mentor mentioned, it would be great to think of your own method and lifestyle that fits 5R or even that doesnt.

Thank you for your great article and please keep up with your wonderful work :) Happy new year!

    Sincerly,
    Hannah

    Hello Dante,
    this is your mentor Joon.

Well organized explanations and examples about 5R principles of Zero Waste.
Though 5R is most popular code of conduct by Bea Johnson, there are extensive
guidelines such as 7Rs. What I believe is that even though these rules are quite
meaningful, it would not be effective unless people actually put it into action in
daily life. Once more people actually join the movement, we would get visible
result and this would lead to more participants. This positive cycle would be a
driving force to go completely eco-friendly. Though it is obvious we can not go
completely Zero Waste, we should at least try our best as possible.
I want to ask you a question. Are you living Eco-friendly life?
It would be nice topic for free article if you evaluate your lifestyle on your own
and seek for improvements. It might be small, but with combined efforts, we can
make things possible no matter how hard it seems

    Thanks for your article.

    Best,

    Joon
