Applying Zero Waste in Real Life
Zero waste is a lifestyle in order to reduce the waste we produce and creating no waste at all. However, it does not mean we have to do it perfectly. Life is about processes, so in regards with zero waste it should also be a process in slowly producing no waste.
Simple things that can be done, is by using reusable bags and tumblers, because then the usage of plastic bags and plastic bottles would be reduced individually. Applying zero waste in real life can start with reducing the amount of plastic waste produced. That is, transitioning from buying bottled soap and shampoo and changing to refillable soap and shampoo. But there is also the option of a bar soap and a bar shampoo as well.
Integrating zero waste in our daily life, would not then mean to throw away our old products that still contains something or are still usable. If a shampoo container still has shampoo in it, then it needs to be finished first before moving to a bar soap. This is so that we become truly sustainable.
After doing small adjustments in our life, it would later be an everyday habit. From there, new adjustments leading to the zero waste lifestyle can be further more implemented. So if you want to lead a zero waste lifestyle, start by doing small adjustments and take everything one at a time. Maybe later, food waste and scraps could then be turned into compost. Or maybe start by making a compost before changing any part of your lifestyle in order to lead a more sustainable lifestyle. A zero waste lifestyle does not have to be perfect, what is important is the sustainability of the lifestyle itself. |

Hello Ida,
this is your mentor Joon.
It is true that we can't go 100 per cent Zero Waste. However,
what's important is the attitude and seriousness of person participating it.
By refusing one-time usages and reducing, recycling, reusing
the materials that can be reused can make situations go better.
Hope more people get interested to Zero Waste movement and used to the
lifestyle guided under the code of 5Rs. Together, we would get one step closer
to better world. Maybe you should also give it a try as it can be simple and easy
once you get to start.
Nicely read, and thanks for your article.
Best,
Joon
