The Aral Sea, which is the major environmental disaster of Uzbekistan, was demolished because of intensive agriculture, evaporation and unwise consumption. This tragedy began in the 1960s ended up with the disappearance of the lake. Today, this area has been known as a “Ship Graveyard” since there are wrecks of ships in the middle of the desert, which used to sail the Aral Sea. It’s hard to believe once the Aral Sea was a fishing port supplying different species of fish and providing jobs, which was the fourth-largest lake in the world. The desiccation of the Aral Sea caused several damages including air pollution, salinity, health issues, and many more in the region. The dried sea is covered with salt, dust and sand, and they are flying everywhere, leading to poor air quality. The dust storms occur annually , mostly between April and July, and spread poisonous salts and diseases over the entire region. It can be seen all over the world today. For example, Aral Sea salts are found on the glaciers of Greenland, in the forests of Norway, and in other parts of the globe. People who live near the sea are at higher risk of developing illnesses like tuberculosis, anemia, etc. According to the World Health Organisation, 80 to 90 percent rate of anemia has been estimated mainly among women and children, which is due to malnutrition and pollutants of the sea.
