Thematic report: Zero Waste Lifestyle (September)

by Asmita Gaire | 24-10-2021 03:15 recommendations 0

Zero waste lifestyle

Waste is something that no more has utility and is thrown away. Zero waste means reducing the production of something that is ultimately thrown away. In 2013, Bea Johnson introduced 5 R¡¯s rule. It includes Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Rot. It guides to zero waste lifestyle by reducing the production of wastes.

While I was thinking of Zero waste lifestyle, I can¡¯t avoid mentioning the recycle goods that are marketed in foreign markets. In Japan, the goods are recycled thoroughly and are kept for sale. These recycled goods have some value. The value signifies that the seller won¡¯t put the recycled goods into garbages instead will agree in selling them. The value also signifies the consumer will properly utilize the product since it has some money value. If it had no value, the costumer would take it for granted which is no way good and which is not the purpose of recycling.

Similarly, taking about zero waste lifestyle, in Nepal if we talk about clothes; people serve the clothes which no more fit them but are worth to use to the needy one. People use the unfit clothes for preparing pillow and other bedding materials. I have also previously mentioned in some report regarding carbon neutrality that the Tokyo Olympics can be taken as a reference towards sustainability and green living. They have used leftovers smartphones and other electronic devices chips for medals. The Tokyo Olympics focused on sustainable activities. Athletes slept on recyclable cardboard beds and podiums from plastics.

The whole world were looking after the Olympics and were being updated about each and every events and stuffs. So, I personally find that the Tokyo Olympics has really played an important role and has influence lots of people towards Eco friendly activities, zero waste lifestyle and sustainable activities. The Tokyo Olympics has also put the hope among environmentalist and eco warriors. When a normal person does some great things, it gets limited within them or might influence some people on their surroundings who are in connection with them. But the Tokyo Olympics was a matter of concern to universe and this crucial step towards sustainability carried out really does make a greater impact towards the thinking of people. This activity delivered the eco friendly message  to all the people including me as well.

Living entirely zero lifestyle is not possible, but we can prolong the life of the products we use. We can minimize the wastes production from our day to day activities.

Hello Asmita, this is your mentor Joon.

As you have mentioned, Zero Waste is more like an lifestyle, not a forced movements. There
are people feeling pressure about what to do, and what to follow while participating on movements, but there is absolutely no reason to worry about it. By thinking about making
waste one more time in your own life, in a way that waste could re reduced, we could implement such lifestyle in quite easy manner. Doing so, you can naturally follow the 5R principle without even thinking about it. Though going absolutely zero waste is impossible,
we should try our best to keep our planet earth clean.

Well read your article, and let's keep up.

    Best,

    Joon
