Eco-Friendly Waste Management THE REALITY OF MEXICO |

THE REALITY OF MEXICO According to World Bank figures, 99,014 tons of garbage are generated daily in Mexico. Each one of us is responsible for 1.24 kilos per day, this in 2012, now in 2001 with more than 127 million inhabitants more is generated. In Mexico approximately 50% of the people are poor, making services precarious, according to the World Bank more than half of the Mexican population does not have access to garbage collection, due to the lack of services and the quality of education, people throw garbage in nature or in the street, Many times when tropical storms arrive in Mexico, these people always suffer a lot from flooding due to clogged sewers, in the end, illegal dumps are created, which sadly end up contaminating the soil, air and nature, both plants and animals, and clearly it is dangerous in terms of health for the people who live near these dumps. Sadly many people burn their garbage and thus create very toxic gases that pollute the air and the organisms of the people who inhale them, no doubt being Mexican it is sadly very common to see people doing that (in the marginal areas). On the other hand, of the garbage that is collected, only 5% of the garbage is recycled. In Mexico, it is very common to see garbage dumps, I live in Mexico City and in the nearby dumps where the garbage of all the people of Mexico City goes, it is impressive to see mountains of garbage. Eighty-seven percent of garbage dumps are open dumps and 13 percent are landfills. Undoubtedly, I believe that a solution to this is to demand better recycling plants from the government, a better investment in this aspect that guarantees the safety of its inhabitants. I know that Mexico has the capital to be able to generate projects like these, but sadly due to mismanagement, this does not materialize. In Mexico, there are several garbage plants, but without a doubt, they are not enough for the entire population. They could create plants that produce energy with garbage, I think it is a good project, and in Mexico, fossil fuels are still being used to generate energy, and sadly if an electrical reform is made, they will continue to be used. Hello Daniel, this is your mentor Hannah.
Sorry for the late comment.
Just reading your article really makes realize how waste management is done in Mexico realistically.
I think it's critical that garbage plants should catch up the entire population.
Thank you for your great article and please keep up with your wonderful work :)

Hello Daniel, this is your mentor Joon.
As I have mentioned earlier, I lived in Mexico for several years, but wasn't able to find
the site to recycle the trash except for campuses of university, and international schools.
Guess this is due to the system, and not proper infrastructure set for it.
However, I am quite surprised by the statistics that more than half of population don't have
access to proper garbage collections. Local, municipal, or federal government should give
out some solutions as every waste would become a contagion, with half of people not having access to proper managing sites. I guess that is a huge problem Mexico should face.
Thanks for sharing.
Well Read.
Best,
Joon
