Air Pollution
It is one of the main challenges we face. The effects of air pollution can be irreversible for life on the planet, so we must begin to reduce the figure.

Air pollution consists of the presence of materials or forms of energy in the air that can pose a risk, damage, or annoyance of different severity to living beings.

The more cars, the more polluted air
There are several reasons why the air is polluted. All the studies conclude that the biggest pollutants are cars, buses, and any vehicle that uses gasoline or diesel. People living in urban centers are the most affected. In Ecuador, six out of ten people live in a city. Studies say that the more cars and the more traffic, the more pollution. The ¡°risk areas¡± where the air is most polluted are the commercial areas, the city center, or those near the bus terminals.

Do only cars pollute?
No. There are other causes of air pollution. Unpaved roads, unfinished buildings, and emissions from the burning of firewood or the use of liquefied petroleum gas, for example, In Esmeraldas (Province of Ecuador), the smoke from the oil refinery is a source of pollution. In the Amazon, they are oil spills, the incineration of natural gas that emanates from the fields, the generation of energy with thermoelectric plants, and non-metallic mining.

Breathing bad air makes us sick
The World Health Organization says that due to poor air quality, cities increase the risk of strokes, heart disease, lung cancer, and chronic and acute respiratory diseases, such as asthma or pneumonia.

But how do we decrease it?
  1. An example is in Choosing when buying the car, a low energy consumption model, or using a bicycle to transport yourself.
  2. The air quality in our home can be improved by daily ventilation, having plants indoors, ventilating the kitchen since frying produces great pollution of the domestic air.

Hello Paola, this is your mentor Hannah. Sorry for the late comment.

Choosing a low energy consumption model car to decrease air pollution seems to be an important idea, and I hope everyone who are buying cars keep in mind.
Electric car markets are growing fast, so it could be a little resolved. What about other factors of air pollution?
Thank you for your great article and please keep up with your wonderful work :)

    Sincerly,
    Hannah

Hello Paola, this is your mentor Joon.

Yes Cars, especially those running with diesel fuels, and/or does not have any reduction device, are the huge source of Air Pollution. All the exhaust gases from old vehicle directly leads to Air Pollution, but in most countries, they are not being addressed as a problem. Governments, those currently not regulating such vehicles, should introduce restrictions, so that it does not harm more people.

    Well read your article.

    Best,

    Joon
