Engineers play an integral role in shaping our interraction with nature.
The decisions we make on a day-to-day basis have a range of environmental, social, and economic impacts. The work of engineers significantly infuences our contribution to climate change. Climate change does not just present environmental risk; it also risk a to global political stability, infrastracture and food security. Given that climate change is one of the biggest challenges in the 21st century, and its impacts are already starting to be felt around the world, its imperative that engineering profession commits to playing its role in reducing its impacts. Engineers use their skills not only to crunch the numbers and equations, but also to engage with people to understand environmental impacts and drive the behavioural change required to minimize the impacts of climate change. So, my challenge to you is; what is your profession? how are you using your skills towards more sustainable future? Credit: Dell Technologies |

Hello Hassan, this is your mentor Hannah. Sorry for the late comment.
It seems that Joon mentor couldn't check your comment!
Instead, I'll reply to your comment, I'm a chemical engineer, and am trying to dedicate to environment by researching on batteries.
I think civil engineering and mechanical engineering are so different, and also both important. Maybe what's interesting to you is the most crucial part to think about.
Thank you for your great article and please keep up with your wonderful work :)
Sincerly,
Hannah

Thanks @Joon Mentor, i have already made up my mind.
In your opinion, which one of these disciplines will help more in fighting climate change: Civil Engineering or Mechanical Engineering?
By the way, are you an engineer?

Hello Hassan, this is your mentor Joon.
There are different ways which engineers could be a catalyst to fight against climate changes. By designing efficient energy transfer mechanism, which could be used in low cost, only a 1% of change creates huge save in energy. Even though it seems little, it would be a big change in global scale. Are you interested in such jobs? If so, I recommend you to read through different textbooks before you start, as it is quite tougher than any prior expectations. If you made up your mind, welcome to engineering world.
Best,
Joon
