CARBON NEUTRALITY

What does it mean to be carbon neutral or neutral?

Being carbon neutral means achieving that these emissions are equivalent to zero, to achieve this it is necessary to create action plans and thus reduce, compensate and/or remove the emissions generated, whether by a company, industry, or country.

An Example Can Be The Mobility Of Green Technologies.

It is a fact that the largest and most important companies in all sectors, including the automotive sector, are increasingly committed to reducing emission levels, not only of their products but also in the production, transport, operation, supply chain. and recycling.

Specifically, in the case of Toyota, this means achieving zero CO2 emissions in all processes throughout the life cycle of its vehicles. In this regard, Toyota's global strategy is to continue to invest in new complementary green energy technologies to achieve carbon neutrality.

The Japanese manufacturer has six specific challenges to successfully meet its goal of becoming a carbon-neutral company by 2050; In this sense, its interest in achieving zero CO2 emissions in the life cycle of its vehicles stands out.

GLOBAL-SCALE CHALLENGE

"Achieving carbon neutrality means making a world in which all the people who live on this planet continue to live happily," says Akio Toyoda, global president of the brand. Within the organization, they are convinced that 100% electric vehicles and other electrified technologies will play a key role in reducing CO2, which is why they invest in all of them.

To achieve its environmental sustainability goals, the brand has divided electrified vehicles into two categories: ¡°carbon-reducing vehicles¡±, when the energy that drives them is not carbon-free (as is the case with hybrid models), and ¡°low-carbon vehicles¡±. carbon-neutral¡±, when they work with carbon-free energy and achieve zero CO2 emissions in all their use.

Currently, Toyota has 55 models with some degree of electrification, which exceeds two million units sold annually. This means an estimated reduction in carbon emissions of approximately 140 million tons in the last two decades, which is equivalent to removing 1.5 million passenger vehicles from the world's roads annually during that period.

The goal for 2030 is to achieve the annual sales of 3.5 million battery electric vehicles.

BECAUSE IT IS NECESSARY?

Being a carbon-neutral state means that the company has committed to developing internal actions to reduce and remove carbon emissions emitted in an accounting period of one year in the operation.

Hello Paola, this is your mentor Hannah.

I personally think highly of companies trying to achieve carbon neutrality. Since Toyota is almost directly related with carbon neutrality, it's great how they've shown their will to environmental sustainability. There are also governments' policies to reduce gasoline/diesel cars for carbon neutrality, so maybe this is how every car companies will head.

Thank you for your great article and please keep up with your wonderful work :)

    Sincerly,
    Hannah

Hello Paola, this is your mentor Joon.

Electrification is definitely necessary as a process of heading to carbon neutrality. That is why companies are producing electric cars and merchandises using motors instead of traditional engines using fossil fuels. Yet, problem remains. Process of production of electricity also emits tremendous amount of carbons and before all the power plants are replaced with renewable source, it would be hard to achieve completely carbon neutral.

Well read your article, and let's keep up.

    Best,

    Joon
