Carbon Neutrality

by Ilona Poplavskaya | 02-02-2022 11:44 recommendations 0

In 2020, a Google executive announced that the company had been considered carbon-intermediate before 13 years.  The direction to carbon loyalty is kept by other firms.

 Carbon neutrality is a word that means that the company has reduced to zero carbon dioxide emissions and its analogues in the course of its own production activities or replenished these emissions due to the result of carbon-negative plans.

 Experts divide firms' emissions into 3 areas of coverage.  The 1st scope (Scope 1) is given by the direct emissions of the company in the presence of manufacturing.  Energy use belongs to the 2nd scope (Scope 2).  It is important to understand that a company acquires energy from one or another key: coal-fired power plants, a nuclear power plant, a hydroelectric power plant, and something else.  The 3rd scope (Scope 3) contains the whole chain of the actual cycle of the product: the acquisition of material, supply, sale, application, processing, and much more, in this case, there are emissions that do not belong directly to the manufacturer.

 3 key methods to achieve carbon neutrality:

 * reduction of direct emissions also transformation into a renewable list of energy sources - hydro generation, clear power, marshmallow power (Scope 1 and 2);

 * direct capture of CO2 from the atmosphere;

 * offset by investing in plans that reduce carbon emissions.

 Reduction of direct emissions

 This method is the most effective, as well as the company eliminates directly the resource of CO2 emissions.  It is not bad for someone that with his support it is easy to establish operations according to the reduction of emissions, since they are direct, but by no means indirect.  The past ones are accepted into the long chain of the actual product cycle, for this reason it is quite difficult to think over the amount of carbon dioxide emissions that are being reimbursed and to establish the final culprit. The problem is that this approach comes with financial constraints - reducing direct emissions is often associated with a reduction in manufacturing size, but means a drop in company profits.  If production is not reduced in any way, economic investments will be required for technological processes that would reduce greenhouse gas emissions.  Often, firms simply do not get into this because of financial inexpediency.

 Direct capture of CO2 from the atmosphere

 The direct mastery of CO2 is given according to the essence of "sucking" carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.  It can be buried near the territory for long-term preservation or used in chemical operations to produce fuel, plastics and other used materials.

 The most popular way to capture is to miss the air space over a special liquid.  CO2 sticks to the consistency, but there is no other air.  The composition is then recycled, emphasizing the carbon dioxide blue fuel with the application of heat.

 Bioenergy with carbon capture (BECCS) is a technique that can be attributed to the direct emission of emissions, however, understanding does not come from the atmosphere, but from the presence of biomass combustion.  Plants also belong to biomass and agricultural crops.

 Green economy

 The advantage of this kind of technological processes is that the beloved has negative emissions.  Plants absorb CO2 through synthesis, but if they are burned, they give back the non-metal, the presence of this is instantaneously understood, and the non-metal does not enter the atmosphere in any way.  In a similar way, plants absorb carbon dioxide blue fuel, but then they do not emit it back into the atmosphere in any way - thus, negative emissions are made, in this case there is a practical reduction in carbon dioxide in the total amount.

 Reimbursement through investing in carbon negative plans

 Plans for offsetting carbon dioxide are very large.  This can be as well as helping natural actions, thus also supporting other companies also in the non-commercial sector in reducing emissions of greenhouse gases.

 To the help of natural absorption belongs the only one of the most common methods of compensation - reforestation.  However, there are also other less well-known ones - for example, the renewal of the sphere, in which place is the "blue carbon".

 "Blue carbon" is a given non-metal that is found in coastal or marine ecosystems.  Mangrove thick, carrion thick and algae thick according to the essence are considered to be protection from atmospheric climate change, thus as well as absorb CO2 from the atmosphere.  This procedure is performed, including faster than near forests.  As of today, there are examples of this in the past, as well as firms will devote funds to the renewal of mangrove forests in Southeast Asia.

 Another way is to increase the productivity of the ocean.  For the most part, own data are so far only abstract studies.  One of the thoughts is this, in order to supplement high-calorie metal in these parts of the ocean, in which place it is not enough.  This must provoke the forced flowering of small plants (phytoplankton), which, through synthesis, perceive carbon dioxide blue fuel.

    Hello Ilona, this is your mentor Hannah.

    You've intorduced various methods for net-zero. It would have been perfect with highlighted subtitles, since so many different methods are in an article.
    I think the last of three methods to achieve carbon neutrality is most effective and relatively easy, since all of them are complex and can't be done in a short time.

    Thank you for your great article and please keep up with your wonderful work :)

    Sincerly,
    Hannah

    Hello Ilona, this is your mentor Joon.

    Different countries are heading towards the goal of carbon neutrality. Different ways are being tested, researched, and are on the way of application on real-life. Direct capture is a way which seems quite straight forward, but we do not have enough technology to offset the total emission amount. That is why planting trees and making forest is recommended. Yet, planting trees also has problems as it emits the gas once the plant dies. That is why blue carbon is becoming popular as the carbon is stored in ground underwater so that it is not released to atmosphere.

    Well read your article, and let's keep up!

    Best,

    Joon
