Thematic Report: Water Pollution

by Adetomiwa Sijuade | 30-03-2022 16:47 recommendations 0

Water Pollution occurs when toxic substances enter water bodies such as lakes, rivers oceans etc getting dissolved in then, lying suspended in the water or depositing on the bed. This drastically reduces the quality of water.
Not only does this spell disaster for aquatic ecosystems, the pollutants also seep through and reach the groundwater, which might end up in our households as contaminated water we use in our daily activities including drinking.
Water Pollution can be caused by a number of ways one of the most polluting being oil spillage, city sewage and industrial waste discharge. In 2013, three (3) children died in Lotugbene community in Bayelsa state, Nigeria after drinking water from a river polluted by the rig operation of an oil company in the area.
Indirect sources of water pollution include contaminants that enter water supply from soots or groundwater systems and from the atmosphere via rain.

Hello Adetomiwa, this is your mentor Chelwoon.

The photo in this article really makes me sad. We cannot destroy the habitats of animals, because they are not the ones responsible for the environmental issues that we have today. Groundwater is continuously restored by rainfall and the outflow of river which passes through the soil. It is the same with the ¡°Indirect sources of water pollution¡± in your article. Let us do something before it is too late!

    Thank you for the article!

    Regards,
    Chelwoon

Hello Adetomiwa, this is your mentor Joon.

Yes, as you have mentioned in your article, water pollution could occur in various ways. Oil spillage could be one of the reason, though it does not occur prevalently. Most serious problem is the constant influx of pollutants from factories. Even though there are solutions to such problems, it is not being implemented, in some of the factories, due to its cost. Hope more people, industries, and governments get interested in the issue so that we could have plentiful clean water in future.

Well read your article, and let's keep up!

    Best,

    Joon
