Obeche tree with botanical name Triplochiton scleroxylon, is a large, tropical, deciduous tree about 65 m in height and 150 cm in trunk diameter, with large buttresses and straight trunk covered with dark gray, smooth bark. The leaves have lobes arranged like fingers on a hand. The flowers are saucer-shaped and hairy with white petals but reddish-purple at the base. The fruits have wings. The plant is used in traditional medicine for edemas and as a painkiller medicine. The leaves are edible, usually cooked as a vegetable. The trees are also planted as shade trees in cocoa plantations. A natural pioneer species, T. scleroxylon is also used in reforestation projects. The bark of the tree is used to cover the roof and walls of huts. The wood is very light in weight and soft, not durable, and susceptible to attacks of fungi termites, and dry-wood borers. It is used for interior joinery, panelling, moulding, furniture, boxes and crates, sculptures, plywood, posts, etc. Wood pulp, on the other hand, are made into paper. Plants are grown from seeds.

Hello Adetomiwa, this is your mentor Chelwoon.
I remember you wrote an article about another type of tree which is very meaningful in your country. This article is also interesting to read, because the tree you introduced in this article is also new to me! Every Tree is important to our nature, as they are carbon sinks and they support our goal, to achieve ¡°Net Zero Carbon Emission¡±. I hope we can have more of this type of trees on the earth!
Thank you for the article!
Regards,
Chelwoon

Hello Adetomiwa, this is your mentor Joon.
I have never witnessed Obeche tree before. What I know is in order to go green, we should plant much more trees as possible. As the tree has different applications, it might be good to plant the tree on public open area. Doing so, it would absorb carbon on the atmosphere, might be cut down for different usages when it is fully grown up and change to alternative use is required. Hope earth goes much greener than it currently is.
Well read your article, and let's keep up!
Best,
Joon
