How Do They Expect Fresh Graduates To Have Work Experience?

How do they expect fresh graduates to have work experience? There are many ways that you can get work experience as a student. It will just require you to be strategic. You can get work experience through internships, volunteer experience, hustle, or even self-initiative as a student.

Some organisations offer both paid and unpaid internships. Every country has those organisations. You must search for them and apply. Utilise your networks (online and offline). The truth is that most of these opportunities are never advertised. You, therefore, need to take the initiative to have access to these opportunities.

As you apply for these opportunities, remember that your goal is to learn. If you have this principle at the back of your mind, you will learn. If your drive is to make a million bucks from these internships, you are in for a big surprise.

You must be humble enough to know and accept the knowledge and skills gaps. You must also be humble enough to ask the right kind of questions to the right people in the organisation where you are working. Don¡¯t waste time proving that you have the best wardrobe, car, phone etc. It is useless.

Internships are not the only way to get experience; there are volunteer activities that you also can take. Every country has organisations looking for volunteers to help in many ways. As a student, such organisations are an opportunity for you to help and gain working experience. When looking for volunteer groups, don¡¯t look for the big organisations only. Broaden your search, and find other organisations you thought never existed. Again, some voluntary organisations pay, and some don¡¯t, and you need to be aware of that.

The advantage of volunteering with a small organisation is that you gain more skills and feel your impact. However, sometimes, in a more prominent organisation, your contribution is like a drop in the ocean. Capitalise on the clubs and societies that the student community has at your college/university. It can be the students union or faith-based communities, or clubs. Joining and serving in student-led clubs allows you to learn many things that might be useful in the future. You will learn to work in teams, organise events, fundraising, public speaking, etc. These skills are essential for you.

Finally, be a good student, and make an excellent impression on your university and lecturers. The university and your lecturers have projects that require people. The projects range from data collection and analysis to the drafting of papers. Most of the time, the university or lecturers provide these opportunities to students who have demonstrated excellence in their studies and good character.

If you try to experiment with some of these ideas, you will find that, by the end of your four years, you have a cumulative work experience.

Hello Prince, this is your mentor Chelwoon.

What a content! Although this article is not really related to the subjects that we have dealt with, I think this article would be helpful to many ambassadors reading it. As I am on 7th semester out of 8 semesters in my university, I agree with the advise given in this article. I think there must be some students in this platform who want to get jobs related to the environment or that involve helping the environment indirectly. I have a strong belief that the activities that you are doing as an ambassador will also help you to grow and get a job in the future.

    Thank you for the article!

    Regards,
    Chelwoon

Hello Prince, this is your mentor Joon.

Though the article is not really related to environment, I personally like the content of the article. One should always approach to others to look for opportunities. The world does not feed anyone only waiting for the apple to fall down. E-mail, Text, Make appointment, Volunteer and grasp the chance. Doing so, one would be able to gain experience which could be a nutrition for one to grow.

Well read your article, and let's keep up!

    Best,

    Joon

    Hello Prince!

First of all, I want to thank you for the valuable information you are sharing through your article. This is very helpful for college students. Many of them have no idea how much work experience they can get through volunteering, internships, and student clubs.
I particularly love volunteering. I have participated in many volunteer programs and I can say that they not only help you gain work experience, but also help you build up a better understanding of the sufferings people in need have to experience every day, or the necessities that exist in your community. While volunteering, you develop several values such as solidarity, understanding, and empathy. That's what I love most about volunteering, it always leaves you with a great life lesson. That's why I always recommend volunteering to students.
So if you want to gain work experience and have a wonderful time at the same time, don't hesitate to participate in volunteer programs.
