Youth for climate action

How can we achieve a committed and responsible citizenship? How can we move from awareness to action? What role should schools play in this mission? These are some of the questions that teachers and people linked to the educational community have been asking themselves for years.

The emergence of climate change and the progressive deterioration of the environment make us rethink what models of life and consumption we should adopt as a society. Both in the national and international educational sphere, for years we have been trying to work on this problem through the promotion of environmental education. It is therefore understood that the main objective of the environmental awareness process is to teach the rational use of resources. In the course of this learning process, knowledge, proactive attitude, participation and evaluation capacity are valued.

The effects of this awareness have begun to be seen in recent years, when millions of students around the world have begun to exercise their citizenship by demonstrating against climate change. This is how environmental education seems to have achieved one of its greatest goals: to get students to participate and take an active role in defending and protecting the environment and, ultimately, society.

Youth around the world are increasingly committed to global action to stop climate change. There are numerous examples around the world of young people organizing to fight for climate justice, environmental care and various social issues.

Across the globe, young people have united their voices to drive action on climate change. Many of them are already taking concrete actions, such as reducing their consumption, recycling, reforesting and demanding environmental accountability from governments and corporations.

Ensuring that young people have an active voice in the debate and work to protect the environment is fundamental and their role is preponderant to generate an integral and sustainable development of societies.

Hello Nataly, this is your mentor Joon.

Spreading awareness, especially to youths, is an important task for most environmentalists. It is important to do so as it increases the chances of people doing eco-friendly actions as they are aware of such issues. One step further, as the rate of getting proper environmental education is getting higher, youths are now on the frontline of battle against environmental problems. Greta Thunberg might be a famous example, but there are much more youths actively participating to actions. It is a good phenomena which should be kept on going.

Well read your article, and let's keep up!

    Best,

    Joon

Hello Nataly, this is your mentor Chelwoon.

What a title! I think the title of this article is the best title I have seen so far in our tunza-eco generation platform. If I were to pick one of the most serious environmental issues, I would say the abnormal weather conditions. However, it is never a simple task to cope with this problem. We must continue to prepare adequate plans which should be put into action immediately. And environmental education and global action to stop climate change of youth around the world must be included in the plans.

    Thank you for the article!

    Regards,
    Chelwoon
