Among many environmental issues, climate change is undoubtedly one of the most pressing concerns today. In particular, researchers state that greenhouse gas emissions have a significant and negative impact on climate change. SK Inc., an investment company of SK (i.e. South Korea's third-largest conglomerate), recently announced a groundbreaking investment: an investment with a vision to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions. The company announced that it had invested more than a total of $100 million in vegan-friendly startups like Perfect Day, Nature's Fynd, and Meatless Farm. These eco-friendly companies share the goal of tackling greenhouse gas concerns through the production of meatless protein (e.g. alternative protein). SK Inc. stated that it resonated with the eco-friendly goal that the companies had and expressed hope that the investment would allow more advancement in bioengineering related to food production. I found the investment meaningful and unique, especially because it was from a Korean company. I hope the investment becomes fruitful so that new food technologies could bring an end to extensive greenhouse gas emissions. I also hope that other investors, especially in Asia as well, would follow in SK Inc.¡¯s footsteps and make similar investments to prevent climate change from permanently corrupting our planet.

Hello Seojin, this is your mentor Chelwoon.
The management structure of many companies is being diversified to increase a profit in environmental ways. The ESG management is a must, not a choice. Most Korean companies know this fact and trying to develop their business along with ESG management. Samsung Engineering which operates this platform also develop ESG management with environmental infastructure business, green hydrogen & ammonia business, investment on CCUS technology and so on!
Thank you for the article!

Hello Seojin, this is your mentor Joon.
It is interesting to know that the Korean companies has decided to invest on such fields. It was quite hard to expect from Korean conglomerates before. I believe it is a positive cycle of current trend of ESG! Though protein is the ideal source of energy for humans, it is mostly obtained from meat. To produce meat, we need to grow livestock which contributes significantly to the greenhouse gas emission. That is why investment on such alternative source of protein is considered eco-friendly. Hope they could keep up with the investment!
Well read your article, and let's keep up!
Best,
Joon
