Bio is all about Diversity!

by Momina Ahsan | 01-06-2022 00:46 recommendations 0

Having diversity in the universe is like having the colors sprinkled on canvas. Colors that are an embodiment of perfection in imperfection and having flaws, and rough edges but together add the beauty to the picture of the universe. Sharing Land is the rule of Nature but sharing Life is the beauty of Diversity and Inclusion. To emphasize the beauty of diversity and create an impact by promoting shared life intriguing vibes, the UN suggested the theme for 2022 -  ¡°Building a shared future for all life¡±. Fitting within the context of the ongoing United Nations Decade on Restoration, which highlights that biodiversity is the answer to several sustainable development challenges, the slogan conveys the message that biodiversity is the foundation upon which we can build back better. A track that can help restore the vibes of healthy, nourishing, green Earth bringing back the epitome of success through Life.

Moving ahead toward the biodiversity that is having the sturdy foundation to nourish life and cultivate beauty on the Earth. When the Earth was born, it constituted 70% water, and the rest of the land was immersed in fauna and flora. The amalgamation of fauna and flora brought up the fact that Earth is the most beautiful planet in the galaxy, having diversity in its bio. This diversity led to the beautiful melody of peace, having chirping of birds in the morning, and the roasting of cocks depicting the beginning of a new day. While at night, the beautiful whining of Nightingales and howling of jackals illustrate the beauty of Earth, having diversity not only in life but in behaviors with nature. Likewise in the parallel universe, the blooming of sunflowers with the single hit of sun rays and the blooming of Datura Wrighti with the night enhanced vision of life on Earth.

With 8.7 million species of Fauna and Flora nourishing in the universe, there is life brimming with 7.8 Billions Humans thriving on the Earth. Together these creatures are adding beauty to this universe, while facilitating each other's lives in one way or the other. From ecosystem-based approaches to climate and/or nature-based solutions to climate, health issues, food and water security and sustainable livelihoods, biodiversity is the foundation upon which we can build back better. Biological diversity resources are the pillars upon which we build civilizations. Fish provide 20 per cent of animal protein to about 3 billion people. Over 80 per cent of the human diet is provided by plants. As many as 80 per cent of people living in rural areas in developing countries rely on traditional plant‐based medicines for basic healthcare. This is the reason, that cultivated the concept of "One Heath - One Globe" in the universe.

According to this concept, humans, animals and plants are dependent on each other for the survival. The welfare of these three pillars decide the survival with sustainable nourishment of life on the Earth. Even if one pillar would be suffering, the others would start lingering on its own. Due to urbanization and increased development in this globe, bio on the Earth started getting deteriorated. The creation of high buildings and increased pollution added negative impacts on the universe, making bio suffer. The loss of biodiversity has started threatening all, including our health. It's not only about the beauty on the edge of destruction but the life on the edge of extinction.
As per a recent report, it is being stated that between 0.01 and 0.1% of all species will become extinct each year. If the low estimate of the number of species out there is true - i.e. that there are around 2 million different species on our planet** - then that means between 200 and 2,000 extinctions occur every year. The IUCN has assessed roughly 3 percent of described species and identified 16,928 species worldwide as being threatened with extinction, or roughly 38 percent of those assessed. That mans, we are losing our species at an accelerated rate than their discovery.

It has been proven that biodiversity loss could expand zoonoses - diseases transmitted from animals to humans- while, on the other hand, if we keep biodiversity intact, it offers excellent tools to fight against pandemics like those caused by coronaviruses. While there is a growing recognition that biological diversity is a global asset of tremendous value to future generations, the number of species is being significantly reduced by certain human activities. Given the importance of public education and awareness about this issue, the UN decided to celebrate the International Day for Biological Diversity annually. That is a good step to enhance the life on earth, by nourishing its quality and to discover more of its quantity.

In short, there is a dire need to promote the message of "Share life with Quality nourishment and Flourish together with Quality Life in this universe". Bio is all about diversity and we must influence our youth by sharing messages regarding diversity of life on the Earth. Further, increasing trends of research and bringing Nature towards sustenance would help us cultivate diversity on the Earth.

Let's share our visions to promote Biodiversity, its impacts on life and its importance for sustainability. Let's share our visions to enhance quality of Biodiversity to nosh healthy Earth!!

Hello Momina, this is your mentor Chelwoon.

Well written article about biodiversity! I agree that biodiversity is correlated with pandemics. Many ecologists emphasize the importance of biodiversity when they talk about the way of coping with the pandemic. They claim that we need to keep a distance with their ecosystem. For example, when we go to an ecologically protected area, we affect their ecosystem in some way, even if we try not to make any contact as careful as possible.
Even though we still do not clearly find out where it began, I think this pandemic indicated enough why we should be careful about this problem.

    Thank you for the article!

    Regards,
    Chelwoon

Yes, everything is correlated. As for microorganisms, they are perceived as the subcategory of the animal kingdom in the concept of One Health - One Goal.
    Thanks for your appreciation.

Hello Momina, this is your mentor Joon.

Indeed humans, animals and plants are dependent on each other for the survival. But is it only limited to the three pillars? How about fungi? All the decomposers? Organic Bodies? Everything is important as they are all correlated. That is why we should have adequate control towards pollution. For instance, if soil pollution, which does not seem quite serious to humans, worsens, all the decomposers would barely able to work leading to collapse of entire system. That is why we should be careful on our actions and try to preserve nature as it is.

Well read your article, and let's keep up!

    Best,

    Joon
