¡®World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought¡¯ is celebrated on June 17 with the theme 'Rising up from drought together ', The motto of this day is "healthy land = healthy people."

World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought is a United Nations(UN) event that spread awareness about the desertification of the earth¡¯s arid areas. And it bolsters endeavors to combat this. Desertification is the method where healthy land is degraded due to climate change, drought, deforestation, and conversion of forest areas to agricultural land. Desertification occurs when supplements within the soil ended up so few that the soil itself is not rich, getting to be dry. Desertification and Drought can lead to starvation as individuals are incapable to develop crops. United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) is an international agreement to support the people living in drylands to maintain and restore the land and to support those affected by drought.

We all should be responsible to protect our planet. Our small efforts can bring a huge difference to our planet

Hello Lhamu, this is your mentor Chelwoon.

Desertification can lead to loss of biodiversity which is the theme of last month because the living conditions of many species are worsen by it.
Many countries are still suffering a severe famine, and one of the causes of famine is desertification. There exist many other causes for that, but I would like to emphasize that desertification is the worst cause among them because it destroys the land on which we cultivate and hinders the use of water for cultivation

    Thank you for the article!

    Regards,
    Chelwoon

Hello Lhamu, this is your mentor Joon.

Drought is a serious issue which negatively affects our environment. It reduces the food supply, if the drought is no severe, but if the situations get worse, it would eventually lead to desertification. The land which desertification has been progressed would take years to recover to its original state. Therefore, we should try to prevent the land before it happens finding means to alleviate the problem. There are different organizations working for recovery , but it is not going well.

Well read your article, and let's keep up!

    Best,

    Joon
