Happy International Tiger Day!
29th July 2022

Global Tiger Day, often called International Tiger Day, is an annual celebration to raise awareness for tiger conservation, held annually on 29 July. Tiger (Panthera tigris) is an endangered species known for its superior strength and ferocity. Tigers are majestic species and the number of tigers is consistently declining due to poaching, hunting and illegal trading as well as loss of habitat. Wild tiger numbers dropped by more than 95% since the beginning of the 20th century. According to World Wildlife Fund (WWF), globally there are only 3900 tigers available in the wild. Tigers are called the ¡°Umbrella Species¡± as their conservation also conserves many other species in the same habitat.

Hello Prince, this is your mentor Chelwoon.

Tiger is the animal species which represents Korea, so tigers are quite close to Korean hearts. About a year ago, I heard the news that a couple of white tigers which were endangered successfully bred. Korean government is monitoring their habitats continuously so that we can protect them from extinction. I hope that ambassadors who have learned the importance of biodiversity will support groups trying to resolve this problem.

    Thank you for the article!

    Regards,
    Chelwoon

Hello Joon it's sad to hear that, it's very unfortunate that we compromised our ecosystems, we have clipped it to the maximum, so I remember the law of ecosystem that say the more components are removed in an ecosystem the more it is likely to collapse. I hope your government, NGOs and other stakeholders are doing great to bring it back...

Hello Prince, this is your mentor Joon.

Having mentioned of the tiger, I would like to introduce a case of Korea. Back in the days, Korea was a habitat which Siberian tigers were populated. Yet, due to the massacre of tigers by government, it is impossible to see them in Korean peninsula. As the top level predator is gone, Korea is the only place where water deer, which is an endangered specie, is densely populated. They are causing harms to the crops as they are populated too much and nature has lost its homeostasis.

Well read your article, and let's keep up!

    Best,

    Joon
