The Malawi Environmental Endowment Trust (MEET) is a non-profit, independent organization registered on the 5th of March 1999 under the Incorporation Act of 1962 of the laws of the Government of Malawi. MEET was established as a sustainable funding mechanism to ease the problem of late and limited funding. Through the management of a grant facility, the Trust supports priority activities developed in cooperation with the country’s development partners.
MEET is the product of a Working Group established in 1998 comprising The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Malawi, the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA), the Government of Malawi (GoM) and local environmental and natural resource management experts to find sustainable solutions to the environmental problems. The major recommendation of the Working Group was the formation of a funding mechanism, in the form of an endowment fund as a practical solution and answer to Malawi’s late and often inadequate funding of environmental programmes and projects. MEET has the following strategic objectives ensure that it addresses the immediate conservation needs of Malawi while at the same time building the capacity of communities and other key stakeholders to ensure their active and effective participation in sustainable environmental management.
The Trust has over 10 years experience in grant and fund management, and is responsible and accountable for managing the full project cycle. In terms of grant management, MEET facilitates project proposal screening, project appraisals, capacity building and grantee orientation, provides and/or identifies relevant technical expertise, in-house monitoring, evaluation, reporting and project closure. In terms of fund management, the Trust strives to monitor and maintain the value of the endowment fund, thus managing the cash flow of the institution and the grant facility. MEET also has the capacity to manage and disburse funds from a variety of sources, such as Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds from the private sector, to support conservation and natural resource management. Thank you for introducing us to a great organization working hard for the environment in Malawi. In order to encourage companies to lead their businesses in a more eco-friendly way, even though it would be against their interests in a short-term point of view, the support from such organizations is essential. I hope that MEET will help to change the world more sustainable like they have done.

It is interesting to see such non-profit independent organization is working actively on environmental activities. I can tell how truthful their activities are! Hope more of such organizations come up to make a better world.
It was a pleasure for me to mentor you on past 6 months. What I feel, and realize now is that I have not been knowledgeable enough to provide more information related to different subjects. Hope you could keep up with environmental activities as well as your other works. Once again, thank you for following me.
