Ambassador free report for August,2022

by Prince Foley | 10-08-2022 16:38 recommendations 1

This symbol you see on most packaging does not mean it's recycled!

Until today, when I saw the below symbol on products, I assumed that the packaging had been recycled...

I bet most of the population also do!

The icon is actually very misleading and manufacturers use it to their advantage, next time you look at the symbol you will notice it contains a number from 1-7.

What do the numbers mean?

1 – PETE (Can be recycled)
2 - HDPE (Can be recycled)
3 - PVC (Difficult to be recycled)
4 – LDPE (can be recycled)
5 – PP (Can be recycled)
6 – PS (Difficult to be recycled)
7 – Other (Can't be recycled)

No. 1 and No. 2 bottles and jugs are the only plastics that can legitimately be called ¡°recyclable¡± and advertised as such. That¡¯s because they are the only resins that have ¡°sufficient market demand and domestic recycling/reprocessing capacity,¡± according to the report. The remaining municipal plastic waste is often referred to as ¡°mixed plastic.¡± Ever since China shut its borders to the world¡¯s mixed plastics in 2018, the U.S. has struggled to find a market for its plastic waste, especially No. 3 through No. 7 plastics, which are less valuable.

This is another great example of how misinformation can harm the environment 🙄

Hello Prince, this is your mentor Chelwoon.

This article is simple, but really informative. We are living in an era where one can easily find goods that are made of plastic everywhere. As plastic pollution is one of the modern day??s biggest environmental issues, we need to learn and understand the types of plastics. I hope more ambassadors will have some time to learn more about plastics and environmental impacts from them.

    Thank you for the article!

    Regards,
    Chelwoon

Hello Prince, this is your mentor Joon.

Well pointed out! Even though majority of people think that all plastic products with such marks are recyclable, it is not. As most people throw such products, which are not recyclable, to recyclable products, social costs are wasted. Therefore, proper education is required.

It was a pleasure for me to mentor you on past 6 months. What I feel, and realize now is that I have not been knowledgeable enough to provide more information related to different subjects. Hope you could keep up with environmental activities as well as your other works. Once again, thank you for following me.

Well read your article, and let's keep up!

    Best,

    Joon
