[Thematic report] August - Social Contribution Activities of Corporations (Ghana)

by Justice Obiri | 16-08-2022 02:42 recommendations 0

Thousands of corporate institutions have flooded Ghana like the sand at a sunny beach. Some of which are owned locally, and the others being owned internationally. As a way of being recognized in the society, some of these institutions take up a social contribution responsibility to give back to the people they are making money from and of. In mining, some corporations like Anglo Gold Ashanti, construct roads and some major infrastructure as a way of trying to appease the people whose lands and waterbodies are being destroyed to make money.

Some people might say that it is good to give back, but I do not buy that. Giving back does not mean destroy nature!

In light of this, I will taking out one corporate institution; Ghana Shippers' Authority and present some of the social contributions they have made towards the development of the country. I randomly selected this institution and it is not based on any merits. All information being provided about the said institution can also be found on their official website which I would provide at the end of the report.

"We believe in corporate social responsibility" says their banner on their website and a few of their contributions so far are listed below;

1. GSA donated values items to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital
2. GSA sponsored best student in Multi - Modal Transport at GIFF 9th Graduation.
3. GSA donates to Chiraa Hospital.
4. GSA hands over outboard motors, GPS and Fish Finder Devices Battery to Ocansey Kope Community.
5. Effia - Nkwanta Hospital receives donates from Shippers Authority.
6. Management of GSA donate items to Ridge and Tema General Hospitals to help fight Covid-19.

These are just a few, a lot more could be found on the website https://shippers.org.gh/index.php/about-us/corperate-social-responsibility/

More corporate institution are encouraged to do more to help build our societies.

Green Cheers From Ghana.

Hello Justice, this is your mentor Chelwoon.

Thank you for introducing us to CSR activities in your country. As corporates have a big influence on many people, they are responsible for leading consumers by practicing great activities. I hope the positive influence from your energy will continue to make the change from the corporates.

    Thank you for the article!

Hello Justice, this is your mentor Joon.

Society is build on the basis of agreements interlocked with each other. One of the agreement is that Corporates should be responsible to their negative actions and contribute to society in diverse ways. Hope more of those institutions become responsible

It was a pleasure for me to mentor you on past 6 months. What I feel, and realize now is that I have not been knowledgeable enough to provide more information related to different subjects. Hope you could keep up with environmental activities as well as your other works. Once again, thank you for following me.

Well read your article, and let's keep up!

    Best,

    Joon
