Concept

LEED stands for Leadership In Energy And Environmental Design in English, roughly translated as Design Orientation on Energy and Environment.

LEED is a set of rating systems intended to evaluate the design and environmental performance of buildings, homes, and residences. Developed by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) in 1995, the system provides suitable engineering standards for projects to be environmentally friendly, both during construction and operation. operate buildings.

Increasingly, the LEED standard is appreciated because it promotes and increases green building construction activities.

LEED provides a framework for green buildings by which measurable design, construction, maintenance and operational solutions can be identified and implemented. The outstanding feature of LEED is its applicability to all different types of buildings (from commercial to residential). Therefore, LEED has become a leading standard applied to large green buildings in the world today.

LEED . rating scale and standards

There are factors that LEED can measure as follows:

- Sustainable development environment

- Innovation and creativity in design

- Materials and resources

- Ability to reduce energy consumption

- Efficient use of water resources

- Quality of indoor living environment

This recognition-based system sets the same criteria for all projects to qualify and encourage sustainable designs. This motivates operators and property owners to be more environmentally responsible and use resources more efficiently at the same time.

LEED certificates for quality construction projects that meet the requirements. The LEED 2009 standard rating scale for new and major restoration works is as follows:

- Reach 40 - 49 points: Certified

- Reach 50 - 59 points: Silver Certificate (Silver)

- Reach 60 - 79 points: Gold certification

- From 80 points or more: Certified Platinum (Platinum)
Benefits of LEED

Achieving LEED certification brings many benefits to projects.

First, it gives a positive image of the project to the community. Green building methods can lead to significant cost and energy savings. Clean and renewable energy is also encouraged.

Indoor air quality and daylight provide better quality of life for people in buildings. This indirectly increases the productivity of people living and working in buildings, houses or residential areas.

Hello Nam, this is your mentor Chelwoon.

Wow! I have read many articles about LEED, but I think this article is the most detailed one about it. LEED is one of the great examples of green certification program. I hope that more buildings will be built along with the guidelines of LEED.

    Thank you for the article!

    Regards,
    Chelwoon

Hello Nam, this is your mentor Joon.

LEED is one of the most famous examples widely shown when it comes to the field of Green Certification. Did you know that by increasing the insulation capacities, we might not need A/C or heater? In future, with the qualifications of LEEDS, it would be possible.

It was a pleasure for me to mentor you on past 6 months. What I feel, and realize now is that I have not been knowledgeable enough to provide more information related to different subjects. Hope you could keep up with environmental activities as well as your other works. Once again, thank you for following me.

Well read your article, and let's keep up!

    Best,

    Joon
