[September Thematic Report] Extreme Weather in Ecuador

by Paola Guevara | 25-09-2022 11:46 recommendations 0

Around the world, in these times we have more frequently presented periods of drought and rainfall turning into catastrophic floods.
While the weather has been relatively regular and stable for the past few centuries, it now seems out of control.
The latest predictions show that the sustained increase in global temperature will continue. For each year between 2022 and 2026, the average annual temperature is projected to be between 1.1¡ÆC and 1.7¡ÆC above pre-industrial levels, which correspond to the average for the period 1850-1900.

In Ecuador:

The National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (Inamhi) of Ecuador reported in early September 2022 that low temperatures will continue at night and early morning. Provinces such as Pichincha, Cotopaxi, Carchi, and Tungurahua will have temperatures below 5 degrees. Vladimir Arreaga, forecast director of Inamhi, explained that the climatic condition is characteristic at this time of year but with an increase due to global warming.

The reason is due to the entry of cold and dry air masses. "The stable conditions could cause energy to be lost rapidly during the night and early morning, which would cause the land surface of Ecuador to cool down."
For this reason, during August and the first days of September, citizens experienced this sensation of cold. A temperature of -3.8 degrees was even recorded in Latacunga and -1 degrees in Quito. All these provinces of Ecuador

The intense heat from the sun's rays in the morning and the extreme cold at night and early in the morning have been one of the triggers for discomfort and various respiratory diseases in the citizenry. These temperature changes have been very noticeable in recent weeks and may last until the last week of October.

Viviana Chávez, an emergency physician and professor at the Central University of Ecuador, stressed that more than 60% of the emergencies recorded in hospitals have to do with respiratory diseases and that most are related to changes in temperature, especially with the cold at night and early morning.
The diseases that have occurred in adults, regularly, are influenza and the common flu. In children, the most common has been that they arrive with symptoms of nasopharyngitis and influenza.

Hello this is your mentor Minkyung.

I could clearly see that climatic changes have caused intense heat waves. It is surprising that it gets hotter every year as if the sky's the limit.

For the record, if you want to cite the reference using quotation marks (" "), please write which reference you cited after or before the citation.

Thank you for your hard work!
