September Thematic Report: Extreme Weather-Related Incidents |

According to the Turkish State Meteorological Services, Turkiye has been facing its highest extreme weather-related cases in the last 40 years. Turkiye is a country surrounded by sea from three sides of it. Additionally, three different 'main' climes affect Turkiye. These varieties lead the country to have other climatic beauties, but several side effects are also harmful to both citizens and the nature of Turkiye. Unusual rainfalls, and high-speed winds, especially in areas, quickly burned down the crucial part of the forest with a small piece of fire, storms, tornados, and incomprehensible temperature differences between days and nights on the east side of the country. In 2021, there are 1024 reported extreme weather-related incidents, and the future looks alike. Only in the summer of 2022 did the Black Sea Region face three terrifying flood disasters in different cities. Several people were lost in dirty water running down the streets or under a collapsed house; who knows? Several trees fell over the streets one by one. During my research, I saw an excellent definition for Turkiye's weather: When it rains, it's like pouring out of a giant cup. The same thing happened six years ago, and the result was no different. Moreover, TSMS reported that temperatures had been increasing decades by decades. According to the Ministry of Agricultural and Forestry's announcement, between 1988 - 2019, 68.579 forest fires occurred. One thing that needs to be known here is the winds of Turkiye. The wind might seem cute and chill, but it shouldn't meet with a forest full of pine trees and pine cones. A little fire is enough to start a massive forest fire. This was literally what happened in 2021: there were 270 forest fires simultaneously in 53 different cities, and specialists were saying that it was the wind effect. And, as it was the same with floods, this is a non-stop issue happening each year.
