[OCTOBER THEMATIC REPORT] ENERGY GENERATION |
---|
by Bethelhem Ayalew Kebede | 18-10-2022 14:03 0 |
Renewable Energy, what do we know about renewable energy? Everyone knows what its definition is, and if you don't, It means the use of energy that can not be depleted and can be reused repeatedly. One of if not the largest use of renewable energy which you might recognize is hydropower. We can use renewable energy for most of our daily needs, which would make our lives marginally better. Although some of the issues Ethiopia faces in renewable energy are a lack of sufficient information and a lack of monetary funds. If for instance, a working-class Ethiopian family wanted to reduce their electrical bill by using solar-powered energy they would need to spend an astronomical amount of money on the solar panel system, which a working-class family could not afford. As a country, Ethiopia is one of the poorest in the world and what income the government earns is through taxation of imported goods. Which includes most of the equipment needed to set up renewable energy-powered things. The people importing these goods from foreign countries are taxed a high amount of money which they would need to sell at an even higher price to be able to make an income. Most renewable energy-powered equipment is used by industries as they can afford the high prices. A solution to this would be to remove taxation on these equipment which would make it more affordable to many families and create an environment that is not dependent on environmentally damaging energy sources. This would also benefit most Ethiopians leaving in rural areas, as more than 60% of Ethiopians do not have electricity. If a solar energy electrical system was created in those areas it would bring forth development in those areas and reduce the economical strain on the government to provide those areas with electricity, so the government could focus its efforts on more severe problems affecting our country.

Hello, this is your mentor Minkyung.
Thank you for introducing how Ethiopia views renewable energy. It would be better to make your report more concise, so in your second sentence, you can delete the phrase 'Everyone knows ~ if you don't'. Also, if you could provide some statistics from reliable sources, your report would be considered much more credible!
I'll be looking forward to your next report :)
