ENERGY GENERATION: FOSSIL FUELS Fossil fuels are those that come from plant remains and other organisms that were buried millions of years ago due to natural phenomena, the action of organisms, and great cataclysms, under specific conditions of pressure and temperature. Currently the most used are mineral coal, natural gas, and oil and their derivatives. Fossil fuels, but especially oil, are the basis of the world economy and Western civilization. The massive use of fossil fuels as a source of energy began to skyrocket with the Industrial Revolution and, in turn, the population also began to grow exponentially. Currently, most of the energy used comes from the burning of fossil fuels and we know that they pollute a lot. These fuels are a valuable resource because they are the largest source of energy used, but both the extraction of fossil fuels and their use have great detrimental effects on the environment. In addition, they are part of the non-renewable resources due to their high speed of extraction. The use of fossil fuels and climate change are related, which is why it is important to ask. How are petroleum products released into the environment? What are the harms of fossil fuels?
