The circular economy : a solution for a sustainable future. We had more than two hundred participants from all over the world, Madagascar, India, DRC, France, Sri Lanka, USA, etc. (wishing them the best) during the webinar entitled "Entrepreneurial motivation to participate in the circular economy" by Ms. Alizee Ccm organized by Youth Opportunities Madagascar on October 21, 2022. Ms Alizée Ccm, the Founder of Zero Waste Shanghai and expert in sustainability, environmental awareness, and the Circular Economy mentionned that circular economy is a concept that aligns with her values, a window into the future, a strategy to solve current problems. It consumed her so she studied it for weeks and months, became more and more convinced that this was THE solution. She said that regulations had to be implemented, and companies needed to change, but how could she influence that at 23 years old? So she started with her by changing her external world, and took action in a way to align these theoretical concepts with practical implementation, which became a challenge she gave herself one year to become zero waste in Shanghai by using the circular economy and then she created the Zero Waste Shanghai. Circular Economy But what is exactly the circular economy that Ms Alizée identify as THE solution ? Circular Economy. Source : https://productasaservice.net/circular-economy-from-a-linear-economy/ The circular economy is a systems solution framework that tackles global challenges like climate change, biodiversity loss, waste, and pollution. It has four concepts to manage waste efficiently focuses on reducing wastage and pollution with repair, reuse and reduction. The circular economy differs from the circular energy. Indeed, the circular economy is a system, a way of thinking and doing business and a way of living. Yet circular energy refers to renewable energy such as hydro, solar, geothermal or wind and clean energy (Nuclear debatable and not renewable) Below is the circular economy diagram. Doesn't that remind you of something? Yes, a butterfly and that's why this diagram is called butterfly diagram. Butterfly diagram Source : https://ellenmacarthurfoundation.org/circular-economy-diagram The circular economy system diagram, known as the butterfly diagram, illustrates the continuous flow of materials in a circular economy. There are two main cycles: the technical cycle and the biological cycle. In the technical cycle, products and materials are kept in circulation through processes such as reuse, repair, remanufacturing and recycling. In the biological cycle, nutrients from biodegradable materials are returned to the earth to regenerate nature. The circular economy has an environmental, economic and social benefit. The first benefit of the circular economy is the protection of the environment, by reducing waste and greenhouse gas emissions, systematizing recycling and ending programmed obsolescence. The circular economy also reduces dependence on imported resources. Another significant benefit of the circular economy is that it stimulates innovation and economic growth, and could in the long run improve the competitiveness of national companies. In addition, the circular economy creates jobs and saves people money, thus reducing unemployment and poverty as well as the social impacts of pollution and climate change. Apart from these incredible benefits, I believe this article has convinced you to use circular economy like Ms. Alizée. You can watch the video recording on my youtube channel. Let's all move towards the circular economy to protect our environment and avoid waste. Some happy participants from all other the world who gained international certificate of participation. Source : https://www.facebook.com/groups/YOMadagascar/permalink/5310014969124799 I would like to dedicate this article to Ms Alizée Ccm who taught me a lot about the circular economy and entrepreneurship because without these teachings I could not have written this article. She is courageous and a role model for all young people and I wish her all the best for Zero Waste Shanghai and for the publication of your books KAILU, The Open Road, and Shanghairen. Thank you so much to Youth Opportunities, Tunza Eco-Generation, International Global Network and Alternatives Madagascar for making this world a better place. |
