I’ve been learning French in school and the most interesting part about it is that I get to learn about the culture as well. Regarding the environment, I was able to learn more about The Paris Agreement.

To begin, The Paris Agreement was set on 12 December 2015 to tackle the problems of climate change; one of the most grave issues that continues till this day. 'To substantially reduce global greenhouse gas emissions to limit the global temperature increase in this century to 2 degrees Celsius while pursuing efforts to limit the increase even further to 1.5 degrees' was its main goal. It would review the countries’ commitments every five years and promised to provide financial support towards the developing countries.

The most interesting part was that unlike the Kyoto protocol that included only the industrialized countries, the Paris Agreement included developing countries as well. I think that this refinement has sent a message that the climate problem is a communal problem. Even if one side of the world works hard to solve the problem, if the other side harms it, all the effort will become futile.

Another key point of the agreement is that there would be financial support towards the developing country. As UN says, equal but differentiated responsibilities should be imposed. All states are responsible for addressing global environmental destruction, yet not equal responsibilities. It is fair to say that everyone must be involved, but level of capacity difference should be acknowledged. Different levels restrictions should be implied and alternative ways should be found regarding the nation’s ability. It would be best if the developed countries transfer energy and infrastructure to the developing countries. They would be able to have a chance to grow their own development strategies and think about the environment simultaneously.
