Advantages and Disadvantages of Nuclear Power

Energy free of greenhouse gas emissions:
Nuclear plants can produce electricity without producing greenhouse gases, so in this sense, nuclear power is more environmentally friendly than fossil fuels. Hence, many defend this energy as "green".

High production, low consumption of resources.
This type of energy allows the production of large amounts of energy with very little fuel consumption.

Stable energy:
Power plants continuously generate electricity, thus ensuring supply and price stability.
Low production cost:
The annual cost derived from the operation of a nuclear plant is lower than the cost of Coal or Gas plants.

Alternative Uses:
Nuclear energy can be used in other fields such as medicine and contributes to technological development.
  • Disadvantages of the use of nuclear energy.
nuclear accidents
When we talk about nuclear power plants, the Chornobyl incident comes to mind for all of us, and it is precisely one of the reasons why nuclear energy has so many detractors.

Waste management:
Nuclear waste takes many years to lose its radioactivity. There are methods of isolating these residues, but they do not disappear.

Limited resources:
Uranium is needed for nuclear energy, but few countries have this material, which is also not renewable.

Misuses:
The improper use of this energy can cause catastrophes, such as the atomic bombs of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and weapons of war.

Requirements to consider nuclear energy and gas Green:
Let's not forget that this energy transition plan also promotes the use of fossil gas, placing it at the same level as solar or wind energy.
It is important to specify that for the inclusion as "Green" of these energies, a series of requirements must be met.
• In the case of nuclear power plants, those that have a construction permit before 2045 and offer guarantees on the removal of radioactive waste will be considered green.
• In the case of Gas, a construction permit must be obtained before 2030 and emissions may not exceed 270 Kilograms of Co2 per KW/h.

  • Minkyung Mentor says :
Hello, this is your mentor Minkyung.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge on the advantages and disadvantages of nuclear power. Please leave a line between the paragraph explaining the advantages and the one explaining the disadvantages. Also, please write the subtitle 'Advantages of the use of nuclear energy' at the beginning, I think you forgot to write it.

Great job writing November reports, and keep up the work :)

    Hi, Paola Guevara!
    This is your mentor, Yoon.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge of the pros and cons of nuclear power.
Your writing is well structured with appropriate subtitles. Your writing could be even better if you could supply more information on each section.

Great job on writing the free report.
I am looking forward to reading your following report!
