Around the world, environmental health can vary in multiple ways. Certain countries may be more healthier than others, while other countries may be more responsible and smarter than others. Multiple ways are being implemented to help spread awareness, and overall help the environmental cause. A huge topic that may come to mind when talking about the environment is climate change. Due to our lack of care, the earth is warming up to the point where icebergs are melting. What can one do to help mitigate this problem? The Edible Insect Project. It is a project I partook in and can help alleviate global warming to a certain extent. Global warming is a huge and serious issue that won¡¯t be fixed with just one solution. However, one solution can help at least in some way so that global warming is not as severe. The Edible Insect Project partakes in cooking and making recipes of common foods, such as pizza, tacos, or soup, but mixing them with edible insects instead of typical meat such as beef or pork. This project may not seem helpful to global warming at first, but it actually does assist in a way. For typical meat, it is gathered from livestock and taking care of the livestock can emit carbon dioxide and other emissions into the atmosphere. As the University of Colorado states, ¡°animal agriculture produces 65% of the world¡¯s nitrous oxide emissions which has a global warming impact 296 times greater than carbon dioxide.¡± Thus, using edible insects is far greater because the production of edible insects is not as harmful as normal livestock. The production process uses far less resources (less land, less feed, less water, less transport fuel, etc.) than normal animal livestock, possessing a much smaller carbon footprint. |

Hello, this is your mentor Minkyung.
I have heard that there are some ongoing projects that try to develop technologies related to edible insects, but this is the first time that I actually read about specific examples. Although it may seem a little uncomfortable at first, I hope the technology develops and the awareness grows so that we can consume more eco-friendly food products.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us :)

Hi, Cheha Paik!
This is your mentor, Yoon.
Thank you for introducing the Edible Insect Project you are taking part of! The project is very interesting. It is great to know that you are making a food in a way that helps global warming.
Great job on writing the free report.
I am looking forward to reading your following report!
