Plastic is the general common term for a wide range of synthetic or semi synthetic organic solid materials suitable for the manufacture of industrial products. Plastic is one of the few new chemical materials which pose environmental problem. Polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride, polystyrene is largely used in the manufacture of plastics. it is a non-biodegradable substance, composed of toxic chemicals that pollutes soil, air and water. Plastic causes serious damage to environment both during its production and disposal. As it does not undergo bacterial decomposition hence land filling using plastic would mean preserving the poison forever. They won't rot, decay, tear, crack or dissolve. Even 500 years from now, the foam cup you throw away will still be a piece of garbage in a landfill site. IMPACTS • Food and drinks stored in plastic bottles can contain trace amount of Bisphenol A (BPA), a synthetic chemical that interferes with the body¡¯s natural hormonal messaging system. Repeated re-use of such bottles—which get dinged up through normal wear and tear and while being washed— increases the chance that chemicals will leak out of the tiny cracks and crevices that develop over time. BPA can also wreak havoc on children¡¯s developing systems. Even Plastic Water and Soda Bottles should not be reused. About 100,000 animals such as dolphins, turtles whales, penguins are killed every year due to plastic bags. Many animals ingest plastic bags, mistaking them for food, and therefore die. And worse, the ingested plastic bag remains intact even after the death and decomposition of the animal. Thus, it lies around in the landscape where another victim may ingest it. SOLUTIONS: Awareness campaigns- Stop using plastic bags. Educate people about the plastic pollution and its effects on our environment. Road show in regards ¡°No to plastic bags¡±, and display of banners on the walls of slums, colonies and societies areas. join hands with the Municipal Corporation to take the corrective measures, to do timely inspections. And last but not the least support NSS, NGOs, Volunteer agencies and others to organize in all society slums, colonies and rural areas. |

Hello, this is your mentor Minkyung.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge of plastic pollution and its solutions. If you could provide some statistics related to the current use, waste, and pollution of plastic, your report would be much richer in content.
I'll be looking forward to your next report :)
