JANUARY THEMATIC REPORT [Resource Recirculation and Circular Economy]

by Bethelhem Ayalew Kebede | 01-02-2023 21:37 recommendations 0

Millions of people in every country worldwide drive cars or use public transport to get to places. In almost every country it is widespread to see cars it would be surprising not to see vehicles. The most common transportation fuel is gasoline or petrol. People globally rely on this secondary fuel to move places in their day-to-day lives. Many suppliers of this crude oil generally rely on it to make most of their countries' income.
During the global pandemic–Covid 19–because of the lockdowns happening in many parts of the world the was a decrease in the need for gas. Still, after the lockdown ended and lives returned to normal there was an increase in gas prices, which has been affecting millions of people worldwide. Although it has its uses gasoline has been detrimental to the environment. When gasoline is burned there is a release of harmful substances such as carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and nitrogen dioxide which all play a part in air pollution, not to mention the effects it has on health. While there are alternatives to fuel-powered cars, like electric cars, they are more expensive and less available in underdeveloped countries. Most of the time only the wealthy can afford these cars, which are not convenient for public transportation.
An alternative fuel could be pyrolysis oil, which is not harmful to the environment and is relatively cheap. Pyrolysis oil is a liquid substance that is obtained in the pyrolysis process.
Advantages of pyrolysis in the environment include: it can support itself in terms of energy usage reduction in air pollution, net harmful waste produced is low and many more,
Most climate change activists and governments will push on to people the agenda of environmental sustainability, telling people to stop the use of harmful substances and restricting their use without providing an alternative to those substances. People are creatures of comfort, the consensus is they don¡¯t want to stop using substances that will affect how they live their comfortable lives. That is why pyrolysis oil or even other environmentally friendly alternatives to petrol need to be a huge agenda pushed onto people. There should be alternatives to this substance as previously stated most countries' economies depend on crude oil, so there needs to be a careful transition from petrol to pyrolysis in such a way that countries reliant on petrol have time to fortify their economies against the decline of gas, and people¡¯s life will not be put on hold during this transition.

Hello, this is your mentor Minkyung.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge on resource recirculation and circular economy. I agree that there should be alternative substances for more sustainable use, and I hope that they get developed soon.

    Great job writing January report!
