Anything that is thrown away or unwanted that has no further use is considered waste. It is a serious environmental issue that has an impact on all facets of the ecosystem, including global warming and water and air pollution. All facets of life, including the making of commodities and our daily activities, produce waste. Over two billion tonnes of waste are thought to be produced annually, of which roughly 70% are dumped in landfills, 20% are burned, and 10% are recycled. Waste has both a direct and an indirect effect on the environment. The pollution of our air, water, and soil has the most immediate impact and can cause a number of health difficulties, including respiratory problems, skin irritation, and several types of cancer. Ecosystems and biodiversity can be destroyed by pollution, and it can also harm essential resources like water and soil. Waste has indirect effects on the environment, including climate change and global warming. When waste is burned or decomposes, greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide are released into the atmosphere. These gases trap heat, which causes the temperature to rise and a number of climate induced disasters. |
